Clermont county communities prepare a coordinated Christmas program. Batavia funds and decorates, with baskets for the needy and an all-ages school celebration pending December 21. Bethel kicks off a gift drive and lights display, plus a theatre can food drive. Williamsburg hosts a Santa party for children with local business support.

Pretty Wedding at Amelia Parsonage

A very pretty wedding occurred on December 8 at the M. E. Parsonage in Amelia. Virginia Hall daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Hall Nicholsville married Francis Smith son of Mr and Mrs Walter Smith with Rev Stephenson officiating.

Clermont County Farmers to Receive Agricultural Payments

The Clermont County Agricultural Conservation Committee announces 48711.80 in Conservation Payments for 888 farmers who followed 1939 AAA Farm Program allotments. Also notes 1989 Corn and Wheat Parity Payments totaling about 45 million dollars for county farmers.

Junior Woman's Club aids Batavia Christmas drive

The Junior Woman's Club led by Miss Jean Moyer promoted a Charity ball to fund Yuletide charity for Batavia's Community Christmas Committee. Proceeds of 92.87 will go to Myrtle Wilson, secretary treasurer, with a public Christmas program at Batavia Village School District and a Santa Claus on Thursday.

Batavia Rotary Club hosted a Tuesday night event at the school auditorium with Mayor James Stewart of Cincinnati as speaker. Three accordions provided music while Batavia High School trio and others contributed. Batavia PTA served the supper and Dr. Claude Smith presided.

Dance A Success At Batavia Armory

The Junior Woman's Club sponsored a Friday night dance at the Batavia Armory drawing 282 admissions. Billy Snider's orchestra provided music on a west end platform while the Catholic ladies served lunch and the event closed with orderly enjoyment.

Hahn Couple Celebrates 60th Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. John Hahn of Batavia reach their 60th anniversary. Married in Cincinnati on December 24 1879. He is 82 and she 81. Five of seven children survive Walter Carl Hahn Martha Huber Emma Waugh Ruth Winemiller. They have 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Clermont County Corn Acreage Cut to Stabilize Prices

Clermont County AAA Chairman Edward C. Saxton announced the 1940 county corn allotment at 32 110 acres, down from 36 392 in 1939, to reduce a 561 million bushel carryover and protect loan programs by limiting production and stabilizing prices.

Receipts From Christmas Seal Sale Reported

Receipts total $637.94 from Clermont County Christmas Seal Sale with an average of 2.12 cents per person. In 1938 Batavia township led at 5.59 cents and Jackson was lowest at 0.69. All seals cost one cent and any contributor can help regardless of means.

Sale of Dog Licenses Opens in County Auditor’s Office

Dog licenses went on sale last Friday December 15 in the County Auditor’s office with about 6000 notices mailed to dog owners. The penalty-free period runs to January 20 at 4 PM. Licenses must be obtained by mailing remittances or visiting in person. the Warden’s itinerary is not used this year.

Owensville Grange Meeting Moved for Operetta Night

The Owensville Grange announces a 7:00 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 21 meeting moved to another room one hour earlier due to the High School Operetta in use at the School Auditorium. The charter will be draped in memory of Mary Marsh and Mrs. Riehle, then members will attend the operetta with free admission.

White Gifts for the King Service at Summerside Sunday School

A Summerside special service titled White Gifts for the King will be held Sunday morning December 24 at 10 15 o clock. Each department from Cradle Roll to Home Department will participate and the choir will sing a program for the occasion.

Bethel Tate School District approves 3 mill levy

Bethel Tate voters cast 904 to 892 in eight precincts, approving a 3 mill levy by over two to one, more ballots than at the November general election. The levy funds would prevent school closure and loss of state aid, with only Tate Two East and Franklin Two North precincts denying narrowly.

Fomorin couple celebrates 50th anniversary in Marathon

Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Fomorin of Marathon observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday December 19. The couple has lived in the same community throughout their married life. He is a longtime Clermont physician with 51 years of medical practice. They have two sons, William and Bert, and one grandson, Richard.

Young applicants take drivers license exam at Courthouse

On Saturday afternoon December 16 thirty young people appeared for auto drivers license examinations at the Courthouse. Names include Mary Eileen Windsor Williamsburg 14 Harold Kabler Moscow 16 and others from Batavia Loveland Milford and surrounding towns. Examinations ran from 12 to 5 pm with ages ranging from 14 to 18 and multiple towns represented.
