Two verse kinsfolk contributions reflect on Christmas memories of a three year old and a Christmas tree with toys. The second poem recalls Christmas bells and the guiding star as peace on earth and a newborn king are celebrated.
Robert Mullen age 17 son of Lawrence Mullen of Batavia Route 2 Clermont Ohio has reported for recruit training at the Naval Training Center Great Lakes Illinois He enlisted for four years and entered naval service on December 7 1946 The regular meeting of the Batavia A B Ladies Aid will be held Monday January 6 at 8 00 pm at the home of Mrs Aston Anstaett.
In Batavia a large switchboard was hoisted through a ceiling opening to the new second floor in the Telephone Building on Sunday December 15. After hours of prep work operators connected calls while the board rose inch by inch and was finally moved into position in the new operating room.
A farm and home labor saving devices display will be held January 27, 1947, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Owensville School Auditorium. Sponsored by Clermont County Extension Service, the event features four truckloads of devices with D. P. Miller in charge. County residents with devices are urged to contact the County Agent’s Office to be shown in the display.
Farmers in Clermont County are urged to consult local fire chiefs or township trustees about a county-wide fire fighting system that could be funded with surplus government property at bargain prices. The plan aims to provide effective protection with compact equipment capable of pumping water from distant sources, with most fires thought to be extinguished with under 90 gallons. The proposal is endorsed by the Clermont County Safety Committee and the Agricultural Council.
Officials of Hospital Care Corporation in Felicity discuss the Blue Cross Plan of hospital care with residents. The non profit program, sponsored by the American Hospital Service, covers prepaid hospital bills and boasts over 25 million members nationwide. A public mass meeting is planned after the holidays, with details to be announced.
Clermont County farmers interested in goat raising are invited to a special meeting at 2 p.m. December 29 at Pageswa Legion Hall near Mt. Sterling. A. C. Blatter of the Oregon State Cooperative will discuss commercializing goat milk sales, brought by the Ohio Milk Goat Breeders Association. The effort may lead to further meetings in Clermont and Brown Counties near Williamsburg. The American Legion and Auxiliary of the Frank W. Weaver Post thank donors for the Yanks Who Gave gifts, distributed to Ohio Veterans Hospital patients.
Winners in the Christmas Home Decoration Contest sponsored by the Batavia Garden Club are listed with first prize to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh OC Nichols, second to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fishback, and third to Dr. and Mrs. M. K. Elston. The event was judged Monday evening.
In Clermont County the 1946 Christmas Seal Drive for the Tuberculosis and Health Association has raised about half its $5000 goal. Funds continue to arrive by mail through January while the committee urges late contributions. Tuberculosis remains a health threat, with deaths averaging a person every ten minutes. buying seals is framed as health insurance.
The Clermont County Common Pleas Court case Glenn Burger vs. Elmer Smith from Williamsburg was settled out of court shortly before trial. The plaintiff sought 419.25 in damages for an auto accident dated August 21, 1946.
Carl White storekeeper third class USN son of Mr and Mrs Carl White Route 2 Batavia Ohio took part in Operation Duck an Army Navy amphibious training off California. The exercise involved 20000 personnel 500 planes and 60 ships with the Sixth Army Second Infantry Division landing on San Clemente California under Rear Admiral A D Struble USN Commander Amphibious Forces.
Major General George P. Hays, commanding general of the Sixth Army, directed overall planning of the exercises with support from the Pacific Fleet leadership. The briefing outlined objectives, timelines, and coordination among units.
Clermont County Common Pleas Court opens Monday for its January term with civil cases dominating the docket. The report lists drawn grand and petit jurors from communities including New Richmond, Bethel, Loveland, Milford, Miamiville, Newtown, Williamsburg, and Newtonsville.
