The Batavia Garden Club held a Sunday judging of the town’s best home and business decorations. Judges were Mrs. Miles Vance, Mrs. John Bacon, and Mrs. Walter Mendenhall. First prize for door decorations went to Mr. and Mrs. J. Gregg. Kirk Hamilton took second.

Kellum Named Field Representative for Leban Production Credit
Albert Kellum of Bethel R. F. D. 1 has been appointed by the Lebanon Production Credit Association board to serve as field representative in Clermont and Brown Counties. He succeeds Dale K. Bee who resigned. The association, organized in 1984, provides short term credit to farmers and is owned and governed by farmers. Counties served include Clermont Brown Highland Clinton Warren Butler and Hamilton.

Cleon Searles Dies In Dayton Ohio
Cleon Searles a Batavia native died in a Dayton hospital after a long illness. He served Clermont County as auditor from 1915 to 1920, then worked as an examiner in the Ohio state auditing department. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. Funeral services were held at Wm. S. Moore Funeral Home in Batavia.

Ross Home Scene of Slight Blaze
Firefighters were called to Raymond Ross’s East North street home Friday evening around 5 30 after chimney sparks ignited the roof. Chemicals were used to quell the fire and roof damage was slight. Local firemen boast a highly efficient company, noting they have never fully closed a building.

Local Dairymen Named to National Honor Roll
Fifteen Clermont division dairymen in Ohio receive National Honor Roll certificates from the National Dairy Association for testing herd butterfat averages of 300 pounds or more per cow annually. Recipients include Arthur Stevens of Loveland with 21 cows at 4.42 butterfat and J W Dumford among others. funds totaling 528 000 from the 6 percent equalization fund are mailed to county treasurers for highway work.

Batavia High Falls to Milford in Low-Scoring Contest
Milford edged Batavia 18 to 11 in a defensive Friday game at Milford. Batavia struggled with shooting despite many attempts while Milford controlled play with strong ball handlers and stout defense. Jamieson emerged for Batavia and Jimmy Skelton’s reserves briefly threatened Milford’s lead before final buzzer. Referee Nimmo kept tight control throughout both games.

County Guardsmen Home For Holidays
Clermont Counties Arm of the service returned home Monday morning to spend the holidays. Twelve of the eighteen who left for Camp Shelby last fall are present. Two have been transferred to other units. Ralph Chick Lewis and Brown errect joined the 147th Infantry Service Co. The men will spend Christmas and New Year with local families before returning to Mississippi for military duties likely until next fall.
