Amelia Defeats Batavia 84 to 26 in Big Roundup

Amelia High School’s Silverstreaks routed Batavia 84 to 26 on Wednesday at Amelia. Batavia committed 12 fouls to Amelia’s 14 and made 10 of 16 free throws while Amelia hit 6 of 15 from the line. Batavia showed struggle against Amelia’s fast break and zone defense. Batavia heads to Milford next, hoping to spark their scoring as Amelia looks to stay strong near the season’s end.

Mr and Mrs John Hahn of Batavia Ohio will mark their sixty first anniversary next week. They married December 24 1879 in Cincinnati Ohio. He is eighty eight she is eighty two. they have six children twenty one grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Selma Maffey Found Not Guilty In Fraud Charge

A petit jury in Judge White's court Monday acquitted Selma Maffey of fraudulently receiving $397 from her father for house repairs. The jury found the amount was spent legally on repairs and that she had purchased property from her father that needed work.

Clermont County Draft Boards to Induct 47 in January

Unofficial notice from Columbus Selective Service places 47 men on ready-for-induction status for January 1 to 8. Board 1 must supply 21 and Board 2, 26 one year soldiers, all cleared physically and ready for training. Conscientious objectors total three. others may serve in non combatant units if needed. Doctors Gaskins, Barber and Davidson assist with examinations. Board 2 aims to classify 150 men at the Batavia Army today. 1941 AAA Payments Announced For Farmers

Rates for 1941 AAA payments to corn wheat and tobacco farmers were announced this week. Corn 9 cents a bushel, wheat 8 cents, commercial potatoes 2.8 cents a pound, Burley tobacco 0.8 cents a pound. Additional price adjustment based on normal yields and acreage. announcements by Secretary Claude R Wickard. Batavia residents and businesses compete in a yearly holiday contest run by the Garden club. Judges from outside the town will assess best decorated business establishments doorways and homes on Sunday evening December 22. Rotary Club Fun-Fest Brings Laughs and Riots in Batavia

At a Batavia charity event the Rotary Club and Mt. Carmel Bloomer Girls staged a basketball game that turned chaotic when a local player shot the referee Ed Jucker after riotous crowd actions. Officer Frank Perry halted the fracas as the game resumed and proceeds totaled 41.42 for the Christmas Mind fundraiser. Miss Mary Lou Gunderley of Batavia was named to The Concert Choir of Columbus and will sing on radio this winter while a OSU student and Kappa Delta member.
