Sunday Morning Wreck On Batavia Trestle Unloads Livestock
At 2 30 last Sunday morning engine No 16 with Frank Euler as engineer and Bird Fee as fireman left the Batavia trestle at about five miles per hour. The engine buckled off the track and plunged twenty five feet. Ten cars of livestock and merchandise followed. Some animals were killed or wounded and humane bystanders ended their suffering. President Hunt and Superintendent Gleason oversaw cleanup and trains were to run normally by tomorrow. Euler had a broken leg and was taken to the Hamilton House for care. Estimated damage around eight thousand dollars, a figure the line expects to cover with business.
