Electors Disfranchised in Adams County Probe

A special grand jury under Judge Blair indicts about 140 electors across Tiffin Monroe and Winchester townships for vote selling in the November election. One guilty plea nets a $5 fine and five year disfranchisement. prosecutors plan to extend the probe to all precincts, with around 1000 electors likely to be affected.

Hanley Club Formed by Batavia Democrats to Back Hanley

Batavia Democrats organized a Hanley Club at Jamieson hall with 24 members, aiming to boost BE W Hanley of Dayton for U S Senator. The group grew to 74 members. officers named include O P Griffith president James Hillen vice president Rollin Coyle secretary and Albert Heinrici treasurer.

Batavia Plans Replacing Wooden Water Tanks With Concrete

Batavia will install two new concrete settling tanks next spring to replace the old wooden filtering tanks near the power house. The wooden tanks have served since the water system began about eleven years ago and will last until spring. A concrete smoke stack was built this fall at about $800, with $1200 remaining. The plant is self-supporting as the dynamo powers all light needs and the water plant is well patronized. taxpayers are urged to view the improvements as benefiting the whole community.

Batavia Plans Clay Pigeon Shoot With Prizes

Marksmen from Batavia and surrounding area will hold a clay pigeon shoot next Saturday in the field behind the school house. Ducks geese and turkeys will be awarded as prizes. All levees of the sport are invited and guns will be provided to participants without guns.

Popular Gentleman George B. Johnson Dies in Cincinnati

George B. Johnson a longtime Batavia resident and cashier of the Cincinnati Methodist Book Concern for over 25 years died at his home in Cincinnati just before midnight last Saturday after uraemic poisoning surgery. The funeral was held Tuesday at Avondale M E church at 1 30 pallbearers included his nephews O P Griffith Albert Ashburn and Elbert Glancy. Survived by his widow a daughter Mrs Mary Johnson two brothers W C Johnson and John J Johnson of Portland Oregon and a sister Mrs Stewart of Union City Indiana. He was active in Methodism and trusted in many community roles.

Polly of the Circus at Batavia Public Library Benefit

Library committee report for Woman's Club year ending 1910

The report notes 185 volumes added including 86 juvenile books Birds of Ohio in two volumes and Webster's International Dictionary. Gifts include a clock revolving chair table shelves and kindergarten furniture enabling a children story-telling hour with 43 children served. The district superintendent attended the meeting on Thursday the 15th and praised progress in church work and parsonage improvements. Expenditures for improvements reached 74.08 and benevolences raised 87 to date. pastor's pay 79.66 with two conversions recorded. The M. E. Sunday-school sets a Christmas program for Saturday at seven with music, recitations, and readings. Christmas morning has a 9 o'clock Sunday-school session and a 10:80 sermon with music, followed by Junior League at 2 p.m. and Epworth League at 6 p.m. A special musical program and sermon precede.
