Christmas Dance At Armory Draws Bata Social Set

The Bata via young society invited two weeks earlier for a December 26 event at the Armory. About 80 couples from nearby towns attended and described the evening as highly enjoyable with perfect music and refreshments, ending in the early hours of Tuesday after a worthwhile trip.

Adams to the Front in County Vote Bribery Probe

About 690 voters in Adams county face possible indictments for election law violations after last November’s poll. Manchester township accounts for about half the cases as grand jurors continue hearings expected to last days. A 125 disfranchisement estimate looms. a new sheriff and prosecutor take office January 1, 1911, while Judge Blair remains on the bench. Tom Rye was jailed for six months and fined $50 for bootlegging in a dry area.

Josephus H. Hall Dies in Dayton at 72

Josephus H. Hall former Monterey resident died in Dayton last Thursday and his remains were brought to Owensville for burial last Saturday. A Civil War veteran and member of Odd Fellows and Masons, the latter presiding over the funeral. He is survived by two daughters and one son.

Bridge Over Little Miami River Reopens After Sinkage

After three months of transfer, the C G P traffic resumes over the Little Miami River bridge. The structure, undermined by a sunken pier, sank with a car and passengers narrowly escaped. Public now travels safely over the repaired bridge.

Christmas tributes to church workers at M B church

Miss Bess Walker chorister and Mary Jeffries organist were honored on Christmas day by church members. Walker received a gold watch and Jeffries the watch value in money. The Junior League gave Rev Burdsall a gift and the Ladies M E Guild remembered Janitor Ferguson with a small present.

Couple Dies Within Minutes of Each Other at May Hill Home

Mr. and Mrs. John Murphy died suddenly at their home near May Hill Adams county last Tuesday morning. Mr Murphy 62 died of heart disease, 15 minutes later Mrs Murphy 58 died of apoplexy, evidently shocked by her husband's death. They leave eleven children eight boys and three girls. West Union Defender Clayton Cartmell and wife of Springfield and Morris Kain of Dayton visited Mrs Elisa Kain and family this weekend.

Batavia Wedding Scene At Town Hall Involving Notables

Saturday night wedding at Batavia town hall features Master Allen Griffity and Helen Holmes Rush as representatives for the bride and groom. Guests include Theodore and Mrs Roosevelt Governor and Mrs Harmon Mr and Mrs William Taft. A Lohengrin march by Mrs Grace McDonald and a series of drills by Batavia young ladies accompany the event. Admission is 10 cents. Polly of the Circus postponed to Friday night January 6.

Ida M. Thomas sues the estate of Frank M Hardwick claiming about 2000 dollars advanced in his lifetime. Hardwick, a traveling chiropodist, died about a year ago leaving real estate in Amelia and Cincinnati worth around 10 000 dollars. Thomas, who stayed at Massillonian Hotel in Massillon Ohio, claimed to be his wife and helped with funeral arrangements but was turned away by his wife and children.

Fift ieth Anniversary of Mr and Mrs Hage man

Mr and Mrs James Hageman of Williamsburg marked their fiftieth Christmas anniversary in quiet due to ill health. Mrs Hageman recovers from a broken hip while Mr Hageman suffers from party. Neighbors sent gold and silver pieces in remembrance of the milestone.

The Ohio death toll from consumption in the last year totals 6844 with 594 among colored individuals. White rate 188.9 and colored 561.5. Victims include 3543 males and 8801 females. March records 707 deaths, November 465, with monthly totals listed through December 20.

Miami Township Farmers Institute to hold sixth annual session

The Miami Township Farmers Institute will meet January 4 and 6 1911 at the Milford town hall Ohio. J W Nicodemus and J B Brigham of Wah Wert and Bowling Green will address the meetings and share agricultural insights. An evening program with reading music and papers from local talent is planned.
