Train Flyer from Cincinnati to Portsmouth Wreck at Batavia

A Norfolk and Western Flyer from Cincinnati to Portsmouth derailed near Batavia after the rear truck left the track, ripping telegraph lines and tearing rails. Two passengers, Will H. Schenick and A. Prower, were injured with broken collarbone and back injuries. others escaped unharmed. Witness Clarence Zimmerman narrowly avoided the train and described a dramatic, brief crash before track repairs and service resumed by 2:30 p.m.

Death of Frank A. Joseph of Marathon at 36

Frank A. Joseph died December 10 1910 of typhoid fever at Marathon. He left a wife Ella Hensel and four children, with brothers and sisters in Marathon Batavia Lorado and Owensville. Funeral services were at Marathon M E church led by Rev Zierer and Rev Edmund Burdsall with Odd Fellows assisting at the cemetery in Owensville. He was a merchant by trade and a member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

Former Clermont Clerkmaster Tribble Dies at 76

William Tribble of Clermont county near Clover died December 8 at the Masonic Home Springfield after a brief heart illness. Postmaster at Hennings Mills, he was a merchant, teacher and farmer respected by neighbors. Funeral in Clover M E church with Masonic rites. Burial in Clover cemetery. Survived by his wife who could not attend.

Tragedy on Crosstown Farm Woman Ends Life in Barn

Mrs. Joseph Stuart a 46 year old married woman left to feed stock Friday noon at a Crosstown area farm and hanged herself in a barn as family illness and heavy burdens overwhelmed her. She left a husband and eight children, funeral at Bloom Rose church.

Batavia Widow Mary Penn Dies After Stroke at 84

Mrs. Mary Penn widow of Julius Penn died at her river road home last Sunday at 7 30 after a stroke three weeks earlier leaving her unconscious a week later. She was 84. Funeral from the home Wednesday at 2 30 with a sermon by Rev Burdeau. The remains will be vault bound awaiting her son Major Julius A Penn and Miss Jennie, who survive her.
