Prominent Loveland Resident Clarence Tufts Dies at 77

Clarence M. Tufts, 77, a retired railroad worker and longtime Loveland figure, died Thursday at Christ Hospital after an extended illness. A Pennsylvanian Railroad veteran of 40 years, he served at the old depot, led at the tower, and retired seven years ago. He sat on the Loveland Village Council and school board, chaired the Methodist Church trustees for 30 years, and was secretary to Emery Lodge, F and AM. He left a widow Lena and a son Edward of New Jersey.

Two Hurt In 3 Car Crash On Monday

Two people were injured in a three car accident on Monday on Rt. 125 near Mt. Holly. Passengers included Maxine Owens 21 of Bethel who rode with Silas El Money 74 of Bethel. Lewis Knecht 21 of Bethel drove one car. Bernard Golde 44 of Cincinnati drove the third car.

Santa Claus Train Visits Batavia in County Tour

The Santa Claus figure is reported to travel by special Norfolk and Western train No 6 stopping in Batavia at 9 49 am before continuing to Roanoke Va and then toward the North Pole for year end events. Clermont County Fair Board reelects Mull as president

George Mull of Owensville was reelected president of the Clermont County Fair Board at its annual meeting. Ralph Wehrum Felicity was named vice president Carl Ansteatt Newtonsville treasurer and Louis Lewis Bethel secretary. Two resignations were noted and replacements will be announced later. The board voted to extend entertainment to five nights with an extra thrill show night.

Injured Woman Awarded Damages in Loveland Suit

Mrs. Willa Ann Miller of Loveland was awarded 1500 dollars in a 20000 dollar damage suit against George Bistram of Owensville in Judge Harry Britton's Common Pleas Court. The case stemmed from an automobile collision on July 3 1955 on Rt. 50 that threw her from her husband's car and caused the death of her unborn child.

Explosion Destroys North Union Township Fire House

An early morning blast at 6:07 a.m. heavily damaged the North Union Township fire house in Summerside, blowing out exterior walls and caving in the roof. No personnel were inside. the building, valued at about $24,000, is insured and volunteers vow to rebuild. Local firefighters and community members supplied aid and refreshments as donations began to flow.
