Defense lawyers filed an appeal for a new trial for Mrs. Davie Blanche Dean, sentenced to death for first degree murder in Batavia Ohio. The 40 minute jury verdict found no mercy. eight errors cited for misconduct and improper evidence. A date for sentence and a hearing on the appeal will be announced later.
Charles Gilliam 54, a mental patient, charged with first degree murder for shooting his wife Grace 48 at their farm home near Pt Isabel and then attempting suicide. Gilliam, a World War I veteran on trial release from a Kentucky veterans hospital since 1950, was wounded by three 32 caliber bullets and is recovering at Christ Hospital Cincinnati. His sister Orchie signed his release from the hospital.

Three Wedmore brothers Ronald Kenneth and Robert turned over a radiosonde device to Clermont County sheriff after finding a parachute dropped box near Twin Bridges. The four by six inch white box bore the U S Army Signal symbol and was attached to a 25 foot parachute and 14 foot hoop. The device likely sent aloft by balloon to measure weather and atmospheric conditions.
Clermont County to provide thirteen men for the January draft as announced by Col. Chester W. Goble State Selective Service director. Ohio's overall quota is 1505 men. The Courier will publish on Tuesday December 23 due to the Christmas holiday.
Services for Elizabeth Irene Harvey 16 of Bethel were held at Bethel Church of Christ with burial in Bethel Tate Cemetery. The sophomore, daughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Harvey, died after a car driven by Dee Curliss 18 of Wilkensville hit a slick spot on State Route 74 and overturned into a ditch hitting a utility pole. Curliss suffered minor shock. Sheriff’s office and Dr F B Skeen investigated.
Auditor Earle B. Kincaid announced the distribution of dog license applications to all post offices and rural boxes in Clermont County. The license fee is 2 dollars for dogs, 10 dollars for kennel licenses, with a 1 dollar penalty for owners who fail to obtain before January 20.
