Canton federal judge refuses jail for a bank cashier who embezzled 7000, blaming low pay. He suggests bank officials deserve punishment and cites Scrooge. Also notes remarks by Arthur H. Bryan on kissing hygiene and JAMA on social risk in contact.
The Courier announces a one week left entry period for the ScrambleQuote contest with a 21 inch Crosley console TV valued at $289 to the first prize winner. Judging by out of county judges will occur and winner announced around December 18 or 24.
Ohio's Division Eight readies 4200 tons of salt and grit, 57 plows and 87 spreaders, nine caterpillar units, and 24 hour crew callouts to clear 1420 miles of Clermont County roads. Paxton notes modern maintenance prioritizes safety and economy.
In Batavia Ohio Dr Frederick Skeen announces return to medical practice at Kahle Building Main Street. Miss Patricia Wilson of Batavia was elected freshman class president at Wilmington College. The Owensville high school valedictorian and pre-law student was in Clermont County’s Courier Journalism Workshop, which taught news, pictures, and editing a complete Clermont Courier edition.
The State Board of Tax Appeals approved the 1952 real property abstract of 48176023 for Cler mont County as submitted by Auditor Earle B. Kincaid. The approved valuation shows a 31.05 percent increase over 1961.
Mayor Robert Groh announced that bids for Amelia's municipal building are due by noon Friday December 19. Bidders must enclose a ten percent bid check. Council previously approved Fox Reusch and Co of Cincinnati for purchase of municipal bonds at a two and a half percent rate with an $82 premium.
Three people were injured in a Sunday collision on U S 52 six miles west of Richmd. Ted Thompson 33 sustained bruises his wife Doris 31 had an ankle fracture and Homer Hubbard 22 of McDermott had side injuries. All were taken to Christ Hospital Cincinnati for treatment. Driver of the other car was Robert Trentman 19 of near Amelia. Police Chief Charles Spaulding and the highway patrol investigated.
Clermont County prosecutor Ray Bradford says a grand jury will convene in Batavia on December 29 to consider 40 cases. The session marks the county’s ongoing criminal process as officials prepare for indictments or further action.
Elmer Wyatt a 50 year old former New Richmond resident was bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury on carrying concealed weapons and possession of burglary tools. Wyatt is jailed on a $1000 cash bond set by Mayor J F Paschal.
