Burley Association Sells Fifty Million Pounds of Tobacco
The Burley Tobacco Growers Association has sold about 50 million pounds of tobacco to R J Reynolds, including 16 to 17 million pounds of the 1922 crop, for roughly 14.26 million dollars. Delivery starts this week with the 1922 crop prioritized, checks to members about a month after delivery, and pending further sales anticipated.

Batavia High Opens Season With Big Win Over Loveland
Batavia High School beat Loveland High School 82 to 2 percent in the opening game at the Armory. After a close first half 14 to 12, Batavia pulled away as Cover York and Walker starred for the victors and Slone Leever shone for Loveland. Next, Batavia visits Milford High School, then hosts the Alumni on December 26.

Sheriff Confiscates Slot Machine in Tabas County
Sheriff John Rapp seized a slot machine operated by John Barnhoffer in Tabas County last week. The device containing mints awards five cent trades and may include mint packages. If owner sues to recover, case goes to common pleas court. otherwise grand jury action in January.

The H. I. orchestra will provide music for the Home and School League meeting in the school basement Friday evening December 19 at 7 30. Grades 1 2 and 3 8 will supply the program and refreshments will be served. Admission is free with a collection. The 7th grade added about a dozen new books to the library and plans more. The district hosts Moscow High School basketball December 12 losing 18 to 13 and Amelia High School also won at Amelia December 56. New equipment arrived for the manual training department. Verdict a Great Surprise in Hamilton County Murder Trial
Vinton Perin was acquitted of first degree murder in a Hamilton County case by a temporary insanity verdict after 55 minutes of jury deliberation. Lifelong Methodist parishioner described as brave dependable and blameless. Daughter of Joseph and Rachel Summers left with siblings Absalom John Hannah. She died December 10 1924 at age 95 after a life of Christian service and family devotion.

Clement Grote, 77, was struck and killed crossing Eastern avenue and Collins street in Cincinnati. He rode home in a Batavia truck owned by William Craver. The car, driven by Earle Childs, halted after the impact. Dr. A P Heyl pronounced him dead. The death marked Hamilton county’s 97th automobile fatality this year.

Store Owner Escapes After Truck Hit by Train Near Afton
George Cummins of Afton ran a huckster truck loaded with groceries to cross a rail line on Friday morning and was struck by a train. The collision demolished part of the truck and scattered goods. He jumped to safety, but most stock was destroyed.
