Posse Plans Opry Show in Clermont County

The Clermont County Sheriff's Posse canvasses County to promote a Grand Ole Opry benefit on March 12 at Northeastern High School. Capurro Named Acting Coroner in Clermont County

Dr. Nico Capurro of Mt. Carmel was named acting coroner by Clermont County Commissioners to fill the position after Dr. Donald Johnson resigned December 15. Capurro will serve until the Republican Party appoints a new coroner and maintains office at Mt. Carmel.

State To Tax Income Welfare Tops One Billion

The governor's Welfare Budget proposals show a shift toward higher spending with HB 42 seeking 1.86 billion for welfare versus 854 million in the current biennium. The fourth conference proposal set welfare at 1.279 billion, cutting 66 million from the prior third conference. Education would see a 1969 71 biennium request around 1.1 billion and later move to about 1.49 billion under the third tax conference. The Tax Reform and Budget Package outlines further revenue adjustments through the fourth conference.

County to reopen bids for a special school facility after bid withdrawal issues. State adds 32000 dollars to 580000 pledged for the 1 025 million bond plan, with weather permitting spring construction. OKI Budget Cuts Clermonts Share

OKI trims Clermonts share as commissioners vote to reduce the 1971 deficit and budget. A motion to cut the OKI budget from 853000 to 700000 passes after earlier proposals for 500000 fail. Clermont would not contribute 17000 as its portion of the deficit, arguing the agency would not have a deficit if it had operated within income. The county will make its first 1972 commitment payment in spring.

EEA Funds May Last Five Years In Clermont County

Clermont County Commissioners report Emergency Employment Act funds may continue for four to five years with federal support totaling 1,113,200 for 243 workers. As long as unemployment stays above six percent local officials expect ongoing aid. About 200 workers are already employed in schools and county projects. Harold Krempien remains point of contact for job opportunities. The Ohio Development Department also announced a new program to attract industry, seeking formal assistance requests.

Batavia Village honors clerk treasurer for a decade of service

Mrs. Florence Ashburn retired as Batavia Village Council and Board of Public Affairs clerk treasurer after 10 years of service. She received an engraved wrist watch at the December 13 meeting. Mrs. Ashburn began in January 1962 following Miss Bess Paxton's resignation. Mrs. Bette Paul will take office in January.
