Four Die In Auto Accidents In Clermont County
Four residents of Clermont County died in auto mishaps over the past week. Carl Gavin Foster of Williamsburg was killed when his car skidded on Free Soil Pike and crashed. Paul Denninger, a former Cincinnati Redlegs pitcher, reported Foster had been urged to drive carefully after a clay shoot in Maysville. Other victims included Charles A. Pence of New Richmond, Lawrence Grove of Branch Hill Road, and a driver in a Kemper Road crash. Surviving families and injuries are listed with local officials noting Clermont County Safety Council updates.

Yule Party Thursday at Armory with Santa and prizes
Batavia held its annual Christmas party sponsored by the Batavia Business Men's Association at 9 pm Thursday December 23 in the Armory. Santa will give treats and forty door prizes will be awarded. many Batavia businesses will stay open nightly leading to Christmas Eve. Town Hall Theater offers a free Christmas show for children at 2:30 pm with treats for kids.

Escapees From Iowa Reformatory Apprehended in New Richmond
Three young men using fictitious names were arrested by New Richmond Chief Charles Spaulding after being found in an automobile on Front Street. They admitted escape from the Iowa Reformatory Michigan district, were linked to prior sentences in Detroit for unarmed robbery grand larceny and armed robbery, and are held for U.S. Marshals after FBI questioning.

Hartwell Surrenders After Standoff in Batavia
Hartwell 28, of Route 4 Batavia gave up to a posse without a shot fired after a daylong running gun battle in Clermont County. Police say a woman and six children were inside the Grove home where he hid. He faced burglary charges in Clermont and Brown Counties and is held in Batavia jail for questioning and grand jury action. His relatives are being detained there as well.
