Clermont County attorney and long time civic volunteer Charles W Jackson 34 of Summerside announced today his candidacy for the Democrat primary for Clermont County representative to the Ohio State Legislature He has served in the US Air Force during World War II and earned a law degree from Salmon P Chase School of Law Cincinnati He is active in library services highway improvements and PTA work and has three children and a wife Christine McBride was reappointed to the Clermont County Library Board for a seven year term.

Ison of Williamsville announces his candidacy for Clermont County Commissioner in the 1956 Democratic primary. He is 38, a longtime Clermont businessman with civic leadership roles and WWII service. Fred Hoh of New Richmond enters the sheriff race as a Democrat, seeking the nomination after a 1952 defeat.

Barn blaze blamed on boy hunting eggs in haymow

Fire destroyed a barn on the J. H. Murphy farm near Williams Corner last week with damage estimated at 10000 dollars. The blaze lasted over two hours and was started by a boy using matches while seeking eggs in the haymow. Owensville Milford and Goshen firemen aided by a Blanchester civil defense tank truck protected a nearby residence.

Civic Groups Favor PO Branch in Union Township

Early plan for a Cincinnati Branch Post Office in Union township gains support from Williams- Tabasco Civic Association and two other groups. Three members led the drive, one vote opposed, and a letter to District Manager N C Steiger was approved. location remains undecided.

Burley Growers to Vote on 1956 Marketing Quotas

Burley tobacco growers will vote December 29 on marketing quotas for the next three crops. R S Winder notes that if at least two thirds approve, quotas with penalties and price supports at 90 percent will continue for 1956. if more than one third disapprove, quotas end and a new referendum is held next year. Burley is grown in Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Missouri.

Additional Funds Sought for Clermont County Christmas Gifts

Miss Frances Reese of Clermont County Child Welfare appeals for cash and gift donations for 127 children under county care. Cincinnati businessmen Pinkney Brewer I, Francis O'Leary and Robert Stallard invite her to host 50 needy county children at a Christmas party at Lunken Airport on December 22. The 4 to 11 year olds will travel by bus supplied by Robert Croswell of Williamsburg. Also reported, three people injured when a car skidded on ice on State Route 74 and taken to Christ Hospital.

The Clermont Courier buys property on State Route 74 across from Dials Service Station Batavia for a new publishing plant. Some work will occur next year as part of expanding to keep pace with Clermont County growth and maintain leadership in circulation and advertising. Car Dealer Victor Shumard Dies in Milford Home

Victor Shumard 85 died Saturday evening at his Milford home after a weeklong illness. A Cincinnati native, he founded Shumard Motor Company in 1912 later run by son Victor D. Shumard of Milford. He directed Milford Cornet Band, composed songs, and is survived by daughter Lila Morton of Washington Court House. Services were held at John C. Craver funeral home with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Scout Circus Outgrows Inside Bethel Gym For Outdoors Next Year

The fifth annual Clermont County Boy Scout Circus filled Bethel High School gym with a standing room crowd. Organizers expect next year to move outdoors perhaps to the county fair grounds. The Bethel band played as scouts cubs and explorers entered. Demonstrations included fire starting without matches first aid pioneering and whips and towers. Indians in costume performed and explorer scouts did square dances. Dozens of clowns entertained and the finale showed a Valley Forge pageant with Washington prayer and songs God Bless America.

Clermont County Heroism Award Call for 1955 Entries

Countians urged to submit candidates for the first annual Clermont Courier-Clermont County Association of Insurance Agents Heroism Award. The act must be by a Clermont County resident in 1955, with a banquet planned and an engraved plaque for the guest of honor.

Last Rites Held For Crash Victim Virginia Powell

Funeral services were held near Patriot Indiana for Mrs Virginia Powell 37 of Route 2 Batavia who died from injuries after a crash on State Route 125 when a car driven by her husband George Powell 37 left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Powell was pronounced dead on arrival at General Hospital.

Missing Willowville Girl Found After Large Search

Four year old Sheila Augst of Pearl Lane was reported missing and located safe at neighbors home about 400 yards from her Pearl Lane house. Police, sheriff deputies and local volunteers joined the search through fields and door to door.

Voters in the Glen Este Mt Carmel school district rejected a $130000 bond measure for a fireproof addition and renovations by 101 to 56 in a Clermont County special election. Offical results cite turnout variance and concerns about notice and state aid qualification.

County Delays Appointment of Consolidated School Board
