Editorial One Good Job Deserves Another

The Clermont County Library Board should reappoint Christine McBride of Mt. Carmel to another term. She helped establish county library service since 1949 and remains a trusted public servant in civic groups and local organizations. Joe Evans also remains as a fellow long-time board member. Members praise her unselfish service and experience to guide a young library through its early challenges.

Woman Captain Heads Officers Club Board at Fort Meade

Capt Ruth M Haerr of Loveland is named to the board of governors of the Officers Club at Ft George Meade Maryland. She is the first woman to hold this post and has previously commanded a WAC detachment for three years. She was a Loveland schoolteacher.

Boy Scout Circus Set For Saturday

The Boy Scouts Cubs and Explorers of Clermont County stage a circus Saturday night December 10 at 9 p.m. in Bethel School gym. The Bethel band provides music and a short concert before the grand entry march. Adults pay admission while children under 12 enter free. More than 1000 boys participate in a yearly display of scouting skills and games. Brown and Clermont Counties previously combined for one big circus with Brown County presenting a week earlier.

Who Is Mrs Santa Claus Club Seeks Identity Contest

The Georgetown Business and Professional Club invites Clermont Countians to name Mrs Santa Claus in a newspaper contest. Clues in The Courier point to an unnamed local woman, with a $100 purchasingChecks prize, entry blanks at local stores, and a 1:30 p m December 24 reveal on the Brown County courthouse steps Georgetown. Dr Charles Kramer resigns from Clermont County Board of Health citing time constraints.

New Department Buys Fire Truck For Union Township

Ray Riggs, chairman of the specifications committee, with E. Philhower, C. Kirk and G. Schaeffer, announced a purchase order for a 1956 fully equipped fire truck. Delivery expected about March 1, 1956 through Dick Campbell of American Fire Equipment Co. Public vote favored the new apparatus, with generous donations aiding the purchase. Williamsville Volunteer Fire Department will continue protection of Union Township until 1956.

Jury Indicts 20 and Ignores 16 Cases in Clermont County

Willard Davis led a grand jury that returned 35 indictments against 20 defendants. Sixteen cases were dismissed. Indictments named Albert Findlay Richard Funke Earl Hunter James W Sillett in morals, jail break and armed robbery charges. Warren Gordon Morgan Griffey Lawrence Thiel Harold Walker and others faced forgery larceny and receiving stolen property charges. Non support charged many defendants including James Dolch Stanley Anspach Walter Benjamin Eddie Smith and others.

Prudential Opens Office and Store Changes Hands

Prudential Life Insurance opens a new detached Batavia office in the First National Bank Building with Russell L. Canter as staff manager. Foster's Department Store in Batavia is sold to B. Schottenstein of Cincinnati and will be renamed The Fair Store with a liquidation sale underway. No staff changes are planned, manager Gordon Hauck remains. Thomas Gallenstein, 25, suffers burns in an oil furnace explosion near Milford and is hospitalized.

New Kiwanis Club Discusses Owensville School Problems

J W Evans Owensville school superintendent spoke at the new Kiwanis Club meeting on consolidation and a proposed six hundred thousand dollar high school. A 110 acre site between Owensville Marathon and Newtonsville is chosen with a Cincinnati heating contract for 21000. County Engineer Carl Rush to discuss village and school water needs at next meeting.

Utility Valuation Up In Clermont County

Clermont County auditor Caile B. Kincaid announced a 1955 utility valuation rise of about 10,984,659 over 1954. The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. account totals 31,478,580 with 27,032,740 in Pierce Township where the new generating plant sits. Located in New Richmond school district, the tax rate climbs from 9.50 to 11.30 per thousand, yielding 359,832 for operating revenue.

Withamsville Post Office Branch Opened December 1

A contract branch of the Amelia post office began serving Withamsville on December 1. Located in the Withamsville 5 to 1.00 store, Charles Burkhardt serves as clerk in charge. Daily hours run 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except Sunday with a 5 p.m. mail pickup. Christmas cards and parcels should be mailed early for delivery.

One Dead Hurt In Auto Crashes

William H. Rudig, 35, of Bantam, died from a skull fracture after a crash on Dead Man's Curve on Route 125 east of Route 222. He was taken to Cincinnati hospital. Three others were injured in separate Route 28 crash near Goshen involving Clarence Mathews and Roy Gillis.

Goshen PTA Meeting Chaired by L G Hause

L G Hause, superintendent of Goshen schools, served as program chairman for the Goshen PTA meeting Tuesday evening. Marion Barre reviewed recent school board actions and each member was urged to recruit more parents to join.

Two Seek GOP Nomination For Clermont Prosecutor Post

Two attorneys Ralph A. Hill of Milford and John L. Watson of Williamsburg announced today they will seek the GOP nomination for Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney. Watson, 31, UC Law School graduate, has five years in Clermont practice and chairs the county bar Legal Aid Committee.. Hill, UC Law College graduate, has practiced since 1949, heads a subdivision plat regulation committee, and is reserve Air Force JAG captain.
