Williamsburg Girl Wins County Declamation Title

Ramona Amiott of Williamsburg won the county runner-up contest for the World Peace Declamation finals at the Methodist Church in Afton. Judges noted a close score against rivals Peggy Kautz of Williamsburg and Clara Barbara Stagge of Batavia as about 125 people watched. Amiott advances to face state winners in Columbus in February to qualify for the national meet.

Milford Club Suspected Gambler Denied Post Raid

After the Century Club raid in Clermont County authorities suspended for three months the priority rating of Walter H. Gingrich contractor of Terrace Park for alleged violations of a $200 revials used in the cancelind. The club opened late January and operated two nights before the raid. no arrests were made though elaborate gambling equipment was reported. Backers were thought to be a mix of northern Kentucky Indiana and Cincinnati men. James Franklin operated the Millcroft Inn and repurposed the old stone stable into the Century bar with remodeling costing several thousand dollars.

Death occurs at his home on Wednesday night. Buchanan, Esq. was a noted public figure who served multiple terms in the county legislature and held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Mrs Fanny Mefford 69 wife of Harry Mefford retired mail carrier died at her home on Davis Pike Clermont County after a brief illness. She lived on Davis Pike over 40 years. Funeral at Moore Funeral Home Friday 2 PM. Survived by husband two sons Franklin Milwaukee Wisconsin William Madisonville Jerome Navy stationed in the Pacific and daughter Mrs Chas Kolde Deer Park. Norma preceded her in death.

John Hayden Honored by GOP for Long Service in Ohio House

Clermont County representative John Hayden is honored by Republican members of the Legislature to summon the party’s memors-elect to the caucus at the State House in Columbus on December 12. Hayden has served five consecutive House sessions, a distinction shared with Ballard Cory Myers and Shaw who agreed Hayden should be honored. The Republican nominee for Speak pro tem and clerk will be named.

Senior 4 H Club Elects New Officers and Xmas Party

The Senior 4 H Club met December 4 at Mrs. Christine Hurdle's home and elected officers: President Louise Shinkle, Vice President Ruth Zurmehly, Secretary Treasurer Clara Barbara Stagge, News Reporter Rita Glancy. A Christmas party follows the December 18 meeting at Stagge's home. Clermont County 4 H Advisors met at Batavia U B Church. Batavia Sr. Club earned a 100 percent completion banner after earlier Clermont County Fair awards.

County Legion Sends 907 Xmas Gifts to Soldiers

On December 10 Batavia New Richmond and Williamsburg volunteers met at the Armory to pack 907 Christmas parcels for men and women in four Ohio Government Hospitals. Parcels funded by local citizens and aided by Eddie Cantor press. Emily Moore Batavia organized nearly 700 parcels weighing about 1000 pounds. Dale H. Nichols New Richmond led county effort.

Board to Change Method of Kerosene Ration Procedures

Clermont County War Price and Rationing Board announces new kerosene rules. Holders may use coupons after expiration date. Renewals next year require applicants to request 30 days before coupons run out. A new form will cover cooking and lighting rations.

East Hill Farm Club Holds Christmas Meeting

Members gathered at Mrs Steward home for a Christmas gathering. Sixteen members responded to roll call as “America” was sung. Readings on Christmas Giving were shared and gift exchanges occurred. Contests were won by Mrs Moore and Mrs Budo. Next meeting set for January 4 at Mrs Day home.

A Batavia youth center project gains momentum after a Wednesday meeting where Mrs Cob ler and fellow speakers pitched the idea to about fifteen organizations. Enthusiasm and cooperation suggest the center will soon open in Batavia.

Booth Brown Nuptials At Batavia Methodist Church

Miss Imogene Booth and Cpl. Richard Brown wed at Batavia Methodist Church on Sunday December 10 at 8 pm with family and service members in attendance.
