Township Officials Meet to Push Revenue and Zoning Reforms

Forty Clermont County township trustees and clerks gathered in the courthouse conference room with state leaders Joe R. Thomas and J. W. Tucker urging expanded membership to back reforms. They advocated higher township revenues, zoning powers to curb undesirable venues, and salary increases from 250 to 350 for 100 days of service. The group invited all members to the January State Convention in Columbus. Clermont officers include President W. O. Ferree, Vice President Norman Fee, Secretary-Treasurer Arthur Brown, and Executive Chair Fred Romohr.

Urban Night Hosted by Batavia Rotary Club

Forty Batavia Rotary Club members invited out of town guests to an urban night observance in the School Auditorium last Tuesday. Each member introduced a guest. After the banquet Miss Gladys Lewis and Miss Myrtle Wilson performed vocal music while Walter Kuhl of Milford entertained with magic.

Funeral services held for Wm T Mac Neilan in Lebanon

Former Clermont resident William T. MacNeilan died suddenly December 10 at his Lebanon home. Services were at Johnson Funeral Home Lebanon December 12 with burial in Batavia Cemetery. Survived by widow Lillian Stark MacNeilan and daughter Deborah May MacNeilan.

The probate court on December 8 heard an appraisement of the estate of the late Mattie Troy formerly of Batavia seamstress now of Hamilton. Open House for Ashburns Marks New Home on Market Street

Dr and Mrs J K Ashburn hosted an open house from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday to celebrate their new s room home on Market Street. Frank W White Named Chairman of Ball

Frank W White of Milford announced his acceptance as chairman of Clermont county's President's Birthday Ball committee. The central Batavia celebration will be held late January to aid Infantile Paralysis research. Special radio programs are scheduled on December 15 with Gen Hugh Johnson on CBS and December 19 with the American Medical Association on NBC Red.

Driver Fined for Drunken Driving in Bethel Case

Ralph Johnson of Felicity was arrested by State Highway patrol and jailed in Batavia on drunken driving charges. He was tried before Mayor Clarence Kennedy, fined $100 and costs, licenses suspended six months, with a $50 note furnished and the balance suspended for six months to pay.

Grange Christmas Party Planned for Batavia

Batavia Grange schedules its annual Christmas party for Thursday evening December 15. Organizer Marie Henke says attendees should bring a half-pound of candy and a 10 cent gift.

Ralph Johnson of Felicity was arrested Saturday by State Patrolmen and jailed in Batavia charged with operating an automobile while intoxicated.

Bantam Man Killed in Pike Accident Friday Nite

Charles Rapp aged 63 of Bantam died Sunday at Bethesda hospital Cincinnati after being struck by an auto Friday night while walking along the pike toward Ely's store. He suffered multiple injuries including two broken legs and a broken pelvis. The driver’s name was not obtained. Rapp leaves two brothers, three sisters, a widow and one adopted daughter. Funeral is set for 2 p m Wednesday at Bantam Presbyterian Church.

Former Batavia Girl Is Injured In Auto Crash

Mrs. Jack Arewine nee Sallie Lou Colburn daughter of Dr G R Colburn former Clermont county Health Commissioner is recovering from a dangerous car wreck just outside Batavia Thursday night about 8 PM. Her husband Jack Arewine and another couple were uninjured. The crash occurred when the driver failed to make a curve and struck a creek bank.Mrs Arewine suffered scalp injuries. Arewine works at Tips restaurant in Williamsburg.

County Treasurer John Friend reported $15 847.72 collected in the Personal and Classified Tax period ending Nov 21, about 88 percent of the $18 000 due. Personal taxes brought in 8 281.31, classified 7 566.41, with classified funds going to municipal subdivisions and the County General Fund.

Workmen Continue Demolition of Clermont County Jail

The Globe Wrecking Co of Cincinnati advances jail razing in Clermont County with roof removed and walls cut down. Parking in the alley near the jail is banned by the County Commissioners for safety. Two remaining prisoners were moved to Hamilton County Jail and Cincinnati General Hospital. the detainees are Truman Boose and a man named McKinley.

Ohio Officials Name Designate Judges for Inauguration

Ohio state officials announced their choices of judges to administer oaths for the January 9 group inauguration. Governor elect Bricker will be sworn by Chief Justice Weygandt, with other officers receiving oaths from Ohio Supreme Court and Franklin County judges. The ceremony, brief and two to three minutes, will occur Monday afternoon likely on the west capitol stairs or in the statehouse rotunda if weather turns poor.
