Batavia Sets Planned Clermont County Christmas Celebration

Committees urge civic groups to donate to the Community Christmas Fund and items for gifts by December 22. Volunteers will repair toys at the school with Mr Francis Deter coordinating. Planned events include home decoration judging on December 21, a children's party, and Christmas Eve basket deliveries.

Ashton Coyle wedding ties Bata to Williamsburg

Postmaster Claude S. Coyle of Bata via and Miss Eleanor Ashton of Williamsburg were wed at the U B parsonage Saturday evening by Rev. E S Smith. In attendance were the grooms parents R Coyle and wife and the brides J A Ashton and wife and H B Donaworth and wife. The couple left for a two week eastward trip. Mr Coyle served as clerk of the Common Pleas Court and State Representative once each and postmaster for several years. A new home awaits the bride.

Farmer Robbed on Stonelick Hill After Evening Chore

Rye Haworth, a farmer living below Owensville on Stonelick hill, was robbed of $40 by a stranger Saturday night as he put away supper dishes. The thief clutched Haworth and grabbed the money before fleeing into the dark. Sheriff Auxier advised a warrant. Haworth notes three brothers live nearby.

Boose Couple Arrested on Robbery Charge in Stonelick

Truman Boose and wife Mary Boose of Stonelick were arrested and jailed in Batavia on a robbery charge. They allegedly robbed Rye Haworth of 40 dollars, found in the woman's house. Haworth swore the warrant. hearing held. bound over to the grand jury by J M Wiseman. Sheriff Auxier led the case.

Representative John Hayden of Clermont nominates Wm. McCulloch of Miami for speaker in the 93rd General Assembly. The 100 Republican members-elect approved unanimously in Columbus on December 1 and Hayden will present the name again to the House on January 2 for organization.

Mr and Mrs Levi Gould of Brown county celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary Tuesday at their home near Hamersville. Married December 6 1871 at White Oak Valley the couple have seven children six living. He 88, a lifelong farmer. she 83 born 1855 at White Oak Valley. Past anniversaries drew 150 guests at the Junior Order Hall.

Fire Extinguished After Car Fire Near Price Hill

The Batavia fire department responded Sunday to a car fire involving Mrs. Sarah Floyd of Price Hill. The vehicle burned on a leaking carburetor while Mrs. Floyd visited her father Clem Snider. Owensville citizens and Chief Clark Gregg halted the blaze with minimal damage.

Lawrence W. Lewis eldest son of Joseph and Hannah Lewis born May 31 1867 at Batavia died November 29 at his Jerry City home. Burial was December 2 at Milford. He leaves wife Minnie four sons Truman John Ed Robert and a step son Harry Pierce two daughters Virginia Roof and Alberta McDaniels two sisters Carrie Hatton Minnie Dawson Mabel Wood and eight grandchildren plus two great grandchildren. He moved from Batavia to Norfolk in 1903 retired seven years ago as N and W Railroad section foreman and settled in Jerry City.

In a special session the Mt Carmel Glen Este Board of Education awarded four contracts for the new building. Brose Construction Co received the general contract at 40481 dollars, L E Stevens won the heating job at 6486 dollars, Allen Chandler secured the plumbing at 4538 dollars, and Walter Spence got the electrical work at 1869 dollars. Equipment and well drilling were withheld pending further investigation, leaving final costs about 20000 under the estimate.

Batavia Rotary Benefit Game Draws Large Crowd

A Batavia Rotary Club benefit basketball game last Thursday night at the High School Auditorium drew a large crowd. Funds, totaling 62 dollars at the door with about 4.50 dollars for expenses, supported the event, a humorous contest between the Rotarians and the Bethel Business Men's Club. The program featured costumed players, a preliminary Scout game, school bands, and various tumbling acts, with Bethel leading 28 to 10 at one point and spectators praising the entertainment value.

The Ohio State University Association of Clermont County met December 2 at Batavia High School. Officers elected for the year were James Patchell president D R South vice president Hensey Howland treasurer and F H Deter secretary. A campus plaque with ten name spaces was purchased to honor a Clermont County junior student at OSU. Next meeting is February 23 with alumni hosting OSU visitors and Jack Fullen presenting OSU football films.

Bond sale seals $20,000 for Clermont jail project

County Commissioners of Clermont County opened bids in a special session at the courthouse. Pohl & Co. of Cincinnati won the full $20,000 bond issue at 8 percent interest with a $228 premium, among nine bids received for financing the $60,000 jail.
