State Aid Discussed at Batavia Last Saturday

A Batavia meeting at Sata via high School Auditorium explored a proposed Ohio school financing plan. Dr B A Stevens of the Ohio School Survey Commission outlined 26 cities would gain state aid, with rural areas receiving larger relief via an equalization fund.

Relief Committee formed for county relief meeting in Batavia

The County Relief Committee appointed by the County Commissioners has State approval and will meet in Batavia at 9 a m Thursday with township trustees village councils mayors and relief representatives. Immediate relief is planned and families without male providers will be cared for. Fred J. Croswell is county chairman. The manslaughter trial of Ed Sweeney regarding Arch Taylor’s death at Bethel begins tomorrow in common pleas court with Judge White presiding and Ely prosecuting.

Lone Robber Holds Up A P Store At Bethel

A lone gunman robbed the A and P at Bethel Friday night at 6 65 p m taking 45 dollars from the cash register. Allen White manager and clerk Charles Beck with Deputy Sheriff Albert Hull faced the wall as the robber fled toward a dark alley. Sheriff Roberts and Deputy Moyer had no clue. Local merchants handling auto licenses urged caution and keeping money out of sight.

The Mt. Carmel P. T. A. holds its regular meeting at the school house Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock. A talk on Christmas seals and other seasonable numbers will be given. Lunch will be served after the program.

Bonds Redeemed for Road Construction Project

The county commissioners redeem 68 road notes issued for construction at a total of 68074.38 dollars. A premium of 48 dollars was paid after 12 bids. Bonds bear 46 percent interest in 1000 dollar denominations except one at 1074.38. Stranaham Harris Co of Toledo won the bid.

Clermont County Advisory Council Approves Health Budget

In Batavia last Thursday the Clermont County advisory council met at the Court House and approved a $4790 budget for the coming year for Health Officer, Public Health Nurse, Clerk, medical supplies, and expenses. State $1995, county $2795. physician and nurse cut by $300. Walter Cooper chaired, with county officials Erdman, Ketchum, and Ely certifying.

Farm Bureau and Grange Joint Christmas Party

Locust Corner Grange and Pierce-Ohio Farm Bureau plan a joint Christmas party at Locust Corner School on Wednesday December 21. All Farm Bureau and Grange families are urged to attend and enjoy a planned program. Each person should bring a wrapped gift not exceeding 10 cents.

Brown County boards of education meet in Georgetown and warn all schools may close January 31 1933 absent state funds to cover deficits. Superintendent Dick Smith cites deficits and reliance on December 1933 local taxes. three non state aid schools in Miamiville Milford and West Woodville. Clermont County schools later determine continued operation.

Youth Shot Near Georgetown In Hunting Accident

Melvin Elliot 15 was accidentally shot and killed yesterday by his cousin Albert Sells 16 while hunting near Georgetown. Elliot passed the gun to Sells and stepped in front of him when the weapon discharged, killing him instantly. The victim was the son of a local farmer.

Robbery at C L Jones Store Marathon

The Department Store of C L Jones in Marathon was entered last Tuesday night and a large amount of groceries and clothing taken. Goods not stolen were scattered on the floor. It was the second visit this fall, entry gained through the back window. A reward of 160 dollars offered for arrest and conviction.

A Grange Conference convened Saturday evening December 1 at Batavia courthouse to map years work. Attendance was strong despite poor roads. Pomona Grange now numbers 1486 members and more guests from Clermont attended the State Grange session in Springfield.
