Muscle Shoals Take Stance in Farm Bloc Fight

Washington reports Rep C C Kearns of Ohio warns against Government ownership of Muscle Shoals nitrate plants and the water power projects. He cites Ford offers as inequitable and calls for completing the Wilson Dam and use of existing leases to fund maintenance.

Batavia Boy Wins Ohio State Football Honor

James M. Patchell of Batavia received the football OAA and extra award at the annual appreciation dinner for the 1922 varsity and freshmen squads by the University and Columbus Chamber of Commerce. Patchell played center and is a senior in agriculture. The Ohio Rhodes scholarship committee also met in Cleveland selecting Francis H. Herrick and recommending Robert Jamieson for a Rhodes at-large.

Batavia High School Christmas Carnival Planned

Batavia high school teachers and pupils announce a Christmas Carnival on Wednesday December 20 at 7 pm in the Batavia Armory. Booths feature freaks fortune tellers animals and curiosities with amusements from grandmothers to the flapper. Admission at the door funds go to school purposes and paying old debts.

Commissioners approve county bills in December session

In regular session December 4 the board approved numerous county payments to providers, tradesmen, and services including Bell Telephone Co, road and bridge repairs, jail supplies, stamps, and labor. It also awarded bids for a Ford touring car for the county infirmary and a Four door Ford Sedan for the Sheriff, extended tax collection to January 20, ordered pipec repairs, and filed bonds for Sheriff John B. Rapp and Prosecutor Harry Britton.

Batavia tobacco market opens season December 9 with 13 850 pounds and value $3 846 62. buyers from prior season return except Turner replaced by Aulick. The Ladies Aid hosts an oyster supper and handkerchief sale at the town hall on Saturday evening December 16. The first fox drive drew crowds and three foxes were captured with another hunt planned near Guinea. Mrs Amanda Snider Pearson returned to Bloomfield Indiana after a visit here. Attorney Norman Burnet of Batavia conducted legal business Monday. Carl Wiggins and Helen Snider secured a marriage license in Batavia. Mrs Phoebe Binkley hosted a gathering for daughter-in-law Howard Binkley bound for Chicago. A two-course luncheon was served.

Four thousand people attended a barbecued dedication at Felicity No 115 Barley Tobacco Growers Co operative Warehouse last Friday. Jas A Kehoe of Maysville Kentucky gave the principal speech praising the association as a proven success and the warehouse as well built and conveniently located likely to spur a Felicity boom.

Demonstration Poultry Flocks Report Records Across 12 Communities

Twenty flock owners in twelve communities began keeping detailed records on November 1 to form a poultry demonstration farm project. Each flock will report its monthly egg production by number, not name, at township Farm Bureau meetings to compare practical methods and profitability. Clyde F. Tom, County Agent, notes further activity as the Presbyterian church buys a Range Eternal for their minister.
