Congress observer McEwen tapped for Guatemala runoff trip

Six congress observers including Sixth District representative Bob McEwen were named by the White House to study Guatemala's presidential runoff last Sunday. McEwen, who served Cler mont County under the old district map, joins others on the mission amid district redraws after the 1980 census.

Patel plans hotel at Bigg's Plaza Batavia

Shihasi Investments seeks 3.5 million in community development revenue bonds to build a five story 100 room hotel on one acre of Bigg's Plaza in Batavia. The Clermont County CIC will review the funding Dec 13 at 1 p.m. in the Heritage Building.

Clermont County bids trigger higher costs and deductibles

Only one agency, the Charles J Miller Insurance Co, bid for Clermont County property and liability coverage for next year. County officials say the projected premium is about four times higher for less coverage with higher deductibles. Commissioners plan to decide on a bid or self insurance at Friday’s 9 am meeting as current coverages expire December 15. Potts and Johnson Higgins analyzed the 986000 bid figures.
