Bonds Approved for Bigg's Plaza Hotel Project

In Batavia $3.5 million in community development revenue bonds were approved to fund a 100-room Best Western hotel at Bigg's Plaza. J Kermit Smith, a Williamsburg consultant, says the hotel should open by fall 1986 or early 1987. Vinnie Patel, 26, is named general manager of Shihasi Investments, the developer, with Robert A. of Richmond Hill supervising construction. Shihasi seeks Best Western affiliation and lists Dr N L Patel as 80 percent owner of the Ohio partnership.

County seeks new insurance after rebuffing bid

Clermont County commissioners, at a special meeting, rejected National Union Insurance Co. and Batavia agents Charles Miller Insurance Co. and will readvertise for a comprehensive general liability and vehicle policy. The current plan would cost about 800000 annually vs 250000 prior and excludes key risk areas. Renewal rates for buildings and contents and boiler coverage were accepted.

Holman office complex plan backs zoning bid in Clermont

Planning staff backs Batavia proposal by Glen W. Holman for a 25.39 acre office complex fronting Old Ohio 74 and along the west side of I-275. The plan calls for B-7 planned business zoning with restrictions to curb heavy traffic and place multistory, office uses west of a new access road and residential uses east.

The series explains how Clermont County towns got biblical or founder based names. Olive Branch began as Apples Settlement for Andrew Apple with a 1870s post office. Owensville was once Boston, renamed for James Owens after laid out March 21 1836.
