Batavia Five Game So Far Undefeated In County Play

Batavia High School basketball remains undefeated after five county games. Upcoming fixtures include Felicity Friday and Milford Tuesday December 17. Wins so far include Owensville 46 19 Goshen 28 22 Williamsburg 44 32 Amelia 34 21 New Richmond 48 41. Six home and six away games remain facing five teams twice this season.

Batavia Plans Community Christmas Program

Batavia officials under Harold D. Nichols organize a community Christmas drive to aid 35 to 45 families with baskets and toys. A children’s party is set for Friday December 20 at the school while a Court House corner tree will be decorated but not lit due to a coal strike. The next W F W Post 3954 Auxiliary meeting moves to December 22 at Mrs E B Griswold’s home.

Mt Carmel Glen Este Board Expels Boy For Refusing Flag Salute

A Mt. Carmel Glen Este school board unanimously expelled six year old Joe Blomer Jr for failure to salute the American flag. The decision came after a session with about 150 attendees and with Mrs Blomer represented by counsel. The boy previously faced suspension and the case was delayed to secure a full board vote. The action sparked debate over religious beliefs and school rule enforcement.

Congressman Edward O. McCowen will be at the Batavia Court House from 2 to 4 30 p m on Thursday December 19 to hear local problems. He will also be reachable via his secretary and maintains offices in West Union on weekdays and in the National Bank Building in Portsmouth on Saturdays.

Father of Five Kills Self in Clermontville Incident

Henry Johnson age 36 of Clermontville on Route 52 killed himself last Sunday afternoon with a single barreled shotgun to his forehead. He was father of five and had been ill for four years and despondent over his condition. Body taken to White Funeral Home in New Richmond.

Taxi Service Initiated in Batavia

Batavia opens a new taxi service as two young men form Batavia Cab Company with an office on Main Street near Blocher's Pharmacy. Harold Lender and Morrell Morrell receive a village permit setting fares at 25 cents for up to four riders within Batavia and 25 cents per mile to areas beyond.

Ration Board in Batavia to Close Permanently

The Price Control Board in Batavia and similar offices will close on Thursday December 12. The local office on Main Street, serving Brown, Clermont and Highland Counties, has been emptied. Ration seekers should contact the County Health office for sugar rations and use stamps already in possession.

Fruit Show Set For December 16

The Batavia school cafeteria hosts the regular annual winter meeting for fruit growers on Monday evening December 16 at 7 30. Principal speakers are Frank Beach extension horticulturist and T H Parks extension entomologist. A fruit show is planned in connection with the meeting. The same dates include the Southwestern Ohio Chapter 37th Infantry Division Association dinner dance with Clermont County on December 14 at Hotel Linton Cincinnati. Early reservations are requested.

About 50 Clermont County business leaders attended Batavia Rotary Club’s Tuesday session in the school cafeteria. Elwood Bangham of Wilmington spoke on community planning and a Clinton County program that has been successful for three years, sparking interest in a similar approach locally.

Specialist Instructs Veterans In Farm Accounting Session

Lyle Barnes from Ohio State University led a Veterans class at Williams burg High School Monday evening teaching farm and home accounting. County Agent W. W. Hamilton said the session was highly interesting and useful for managing finances at home or on the farm.

A Batavia memorial honors Donald B. Walker, class of 1930, by installing ultraviolet lamps in all grade rooms, toilets, halls, and cafeteria. The project, done by contractor Don Ayer, was accepted by Dr. F. Skeen and the Board of Education, aiming to reduce respiratory illness.

Insurance suit spurs dispute over fire loss

In Clermont County Court James Robinson seeks 2500 from Sandy and Beaver Falls Mutual Insurance after a home fire last April. He argues the Hendrixson policy for 3000, written by Bryce Hendrixson, was active and payment occurred within two weeks, while the insurer claims notice rules barred the claim. Veterans Plan Second Class In Clermont County

A second class for the veterans on the job training course in vocational agriculture is being planned in Clermont County. Twenty six veterans are enrolled at Williamsburg with potential entry at Owensville pending enough applicants. About ten more are needed to open the Owensville class. Substenance payments under the GI Bill apply.

Aid of Residents Sought To Improve Trash Collection

Batavia mayor urges residents to cooperate with the refuse workers to improve trash collection. Put rubbish in small containers, wrap garbage in paper, and use metal cans emptied at the loading place. Paper boxes and similar containers will be disposed of with the trash.
