Deputy Dog Wardens to Aid Quarantine Enforcement

Clermont County commissioners vote to enforce the rabies quarantine by deploying deputy dog wardens. They allocate 1500 dollars from the Dog and Kennel Fund to support enforcement efforts after widespread leash violations.

Dog quarantine continues as county plans deputy wardens

Health Commissioner W H Gaskins states the dog quarantine remains in force and will not be lifted until orders are obeyed. Plans include employing deputy dog wardens to help County Dog Warden Allen Steward enforce quarantine, track owners, and reduce rabies treatment and vaccine costs.

Former student now serving in South Pacific

Private First Class Bill H. Isaacs, son of Mrs. Mabel Baker of Alexandria Kentucky, serves with the Gamma Military Government Team in Maebashi Central Honshu Island. The unit ensures Occupation Army policies reach 1 500 000 Japanese in Gamma Prefecture by inspecting schools factories and mines auditing welfare programs monitoring political activity controlling prices and procuring labor for Occupation Forces. Isaacs leftBatavia High School, joined at Fort Knox, sailed for Japan last January, and earlier served with the 11th Airborne Division before transfer.

Damage suit filed after Mt. Holly crash in 1947

A civil action was filed by L. L. alleging injuries from an auto accident near Mt. Holly on May 26, 1947. The suit seeks unspecified damages and names the defendant in the case filed this week.

Knothole Club Organized at Clermont County School

A new organization formed Monday evening at the Withamsville Tabasco school will be the Clermont Division of the Knothole Club. George Rittenhouse is president, H Hall vice president, R Caldwell secretary, J Fessel treasurer, and George Ankermiller aided by C Lewis publicity chairman. The club includes groups from Clermont County public and parochial schools.

Charity Ball Draws Big Crowd in Batavia

The Batavia Junior Woman's Club charity ball drew 375 attendees including four counties and out of town guests. Proceeds are estimated near 400 dollars. The Armory showed sky blue draping with star accents and tables lining both sides for dancing.

Shropshire Found Not Guilty in Clermont Assault Trial

William Shropshire was acquitted in Clermont County Common Pleas Court after a jury trial lasting most of the day. Mrs Ardella Herbert, a New Richmond neighbor, accused him of assault and battery following a dispute over a child breaking limbs from his tree. The jury returned a not guilty verdict.

Local school teams split varied outcomes in league play

Batavia beat Anderson 44 while Owensville topped Bethel 50 to 42. Milford won against Goshen 53 to 32 and Amelia edged New Richmond 36 to 35.

Clermont County AAA Committee chair Byron Ross urges completion of all approved ACP practices by December 31 1947 to qualify for payment. Materials must be spread on fields before deadline and every farmer should push to finish in coming weeks.

Seaman Gillman Returns From Mediterranean Cruise

Franklin R. Gillman, a second class seaman and son of Mrs. Minnie L. Gillman of Batavia Ohio, has returned to the United States aboard the light cruiser USS Juneau after a seven month Mediterranean voyage visiting Italy France Greece Malta Crete and the Greek isles Lemnos and Leros.

Reserves Hit Road To Goshen For Fifth Batavia Game

Batavia High School reserves stand 2-4 this season with two wins over Felicity reserves by scores of 35-15 and 37-10 and losses to Amelia 26-31 in OT and New Richmond 14-20. They beat Deer Park 16-12 and Anderson 19-17. The photo lists team members and managers.

Officers and Chairs Named for March of Dimes Campaign

Clermont County announces officers and town chairmen for the 1948 March of Dimes drive to run January 15 to 30. Clermont County Crippled Children Society Formed

An enthusiastic group gathered at the Batavia Court House to form a Clermont County Society for Crippled Children. Franklin B. Buecher assisted, with Harold Nichols named temporary chair and George Ankermiller as secretary. Next meeting set for Jan 6 at the Court House to elect permanent officers and plan Easter seat sales.

Woman Shot by Son In Clermont County

A 17 or 18 year old boy, Ernest Green Jr., shot his mother Mrs Nora Stevens in Clermont County Tuesday evening. She is in critical condition at Good Samaritan Hospital Cincinnati. Neighbors and relatives connected to the Stevens and Gregory families were questioned as deputies pursue charges. A rifle likely 22 caliber was used. the suspect was returned from Cincinnati Wednesday and held at the Clermont County jail.

Clermont Brotherhood to Meet in Sunday Service

The Clermont County Methodist Men’s Brotherhood will hold a December meeting at the local Methodist Church Sunday night December 14. The service begins at 7 30 with a special message by Rev Paul Graf of Ripley Methodist Church. Rigner and a group of high school singers will perform three Christmas numbers. Wife Sues for 20000 in Clermont County Case

Mrs. Lucille Glover of Amelia sues Mrs. Mary Benninger for damages of 20000 claiming alienation of her husband Police Chief Charles Lee Glover's affections. The suit follows a divorce filing in Clermont County Common Pleas Court. Benninger owns the Batavia cafe where efforts to transfer ownership were halted by an injunction after her husband died recently.

Swing Band Promises Night of Dance and Refreshments

Attendees will dance to music played by a group of young people forming a newly created Swing Band. They look forward to the event with participation in square dancing and refreshments provided.

Valuable Cow Lost Near Batavia

Clifford Davis of Rt. 74 near Batavia reported a valuable cow missing from his herd Saturday evening. A Sunday morning search uncovered the loss. a bullet hole was not found, and Deputy Sheriff Frank Hutchinson assisted in the investigation.

Veterans Receive World War II Victory Medals in Batavia

Twenty eight World War II veterans were awarded victory medals in a Batavia High School auditorium ceremony Sunday afternoon honoring Pearl Harbor Day. Local veterans groups organized the event with Batavia band music and battle film clips shown.
