Auto tags and licenses for 1918 ordered early
About 70,000 applications have been filed for 1918 auto tags and licenses. Tags will be shipped in the last week of December and are one-third smaller this year with a dark green back and white raised lettering for visibility.
No Double Tax on Dogs in 1917 18
Citizens are informed that dogs will not face a double tax this year. The regular dog tax for 1917 is paid to the county treasurer, while the 1918 license goes to the county auditor. The assessor will not list dogs next spring, so secure your license before January 1, 1918.

Revenue Tax Law Takes Effect December First
The war revenue tax on legal and business documents began December 1 and requires revenue stamps on most instruments. Rates vary by document type including bonds 5 cents per $100, stock certificates 5 cents per $100, promissory notes 2 cents per $100, conveyances 50 cents up to $500 then 50 cents per additional $500, and tickets up to $8 for certain ranges. Special revenue stamps are sold at Internal Revenue offices and post offices. postage stamps cannot substitute.

County coal committee formed in Clermont Batavia meeting

State highway to link Olive Branch with Hamilton line
Good news from Bata last week that the State Highway Department will build the pike from Olive Branch to the Hamilton county line early in spring. Winter plans include letting contracts and preparing preliminaries so construction can start as soon as spring arrives. The link will connect Clermont and Brown counties to Cincinnati, and draw Cincinnati visitors toward Batavia and Williamsburg, reducing drive times to about 380 and 60 minutes respectively.
