Amelia farmer G Whit Hartwell was found guilty on three counts including assault with intent to kill and attempting to bribe a grand juryman. Judge Charles G White overruled his motion for a new trial and sentenced Hartwell to 1 to 5 years in the penitentiary.
A damage suit for 28838 was filed in Clermont County Common Pleas Court by Dorothy J. Hunt a Batavia teacher against Allan B. West of Wilmington Ohio. The March 8 1937 auto crash on Route 50 near Marathon caused a skull fracture ear drum injury spinal damage pelvic fractures and a broken right thigh. The car rolled three times ejecting the victim about 50 feet.
The annual missionary tea takes place Friday at 2 30 PM at the home of Mrs R L Budd. Williamsburg ladies will be guests of honor and Mrs Mundy and Mrs Owens of Milford will speak. All church friends are invited.
On Saturday afternoon November 20 Mary Lee Davis daughter of Ora and Mary Davis of Batavia married Paul Moschberger son of Fred and Dorothea Moschberger of Bethel. A wedding supper and small reception followed at the bride’s home before the couple moved to a newly furnished apartment in Norwood. The bride’s sister Dorothea Frazee of Norwood served as bridesmaid and Le Loy Frazee as best man. The bride works as a comptometer operator at the Fair store and the groom is a chauffeur for attorney DeWitt Balch of Indian Hill.
Highways into Ripley become tobacco roads on December 1 as warehouses open for the first sale on December 7. Four houses Independent Union O K and Farmers operate. Batavia boys and girls basketball beat Felicity at the high school auditorium. A fish fry and lotto at Tabasco school December 4 at 7 30 p m. Adults priced 60 cents and children 10 cents. Mrs W H Whitehead hosted St Louis relatives for dinner in Willowville.
WCPO artists assisted by the Batavia Quartet are set to perform at Bethel School Auditorium on Thursday December 2. Col Andre Carson will host. Ken Beghold and The Rhythm Men join the Batavia Quartet and other acts with a surprise number. Proceeds aid Bethel Church building fund. admission 25 cents adults 15 cents children.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association district holds a rules interpretation session December 8 at Alfred Holbrook College Manchester with the college athletic director as interpreter. At 9 PM Alfred Holbrook plays Morehead State College. public invited to both events.
The Amelia Woman's Club met last Saturday at the club with hostess Mrs N A Nelson. The program focused on Conservation of Saturday Resources. Roll call covered Products of the Forest. Papers by Mrs Mary Fagin on Conservation of Forest Land Wild Life and by Mrs Stella Glover on Federal Power Plant.

Mrs Bettie Miles widow of Frank Miles of Chicago died November 20 at her brother Zeb Wilsons Davis Road home after a four month illness. Survived by brother Wilson and sister Mrs Emma Hocker of Lexington. Funeral Tuesday 2 pm at Wm Moore Funeral Home with Rev W P Halbert Rev A L Clark. Burial in Union Cemetery vault until final resting place chosen. Card of thanks from Zeb Wilson family and Emma Hocker.
Commissioners of Clermont County pass a resolution creating The Clermont County Delinquent Tax Committee to pursue collection of delinquent taxes. The panel includes J. M. Hutchinson and others and aims to recover $8,038.08 in personal and classified taxes and over $188,000 in delinquent real estate taxes while avoiding wholesale foreclosures.

Funeral services for Perry Watson, 9, mourned at the J. Isaac Maham Funeral Home in Williamsburg with burial in Williamsburg Cemetery. Born on a farm now Georgetown site, his memory recalls Morgan's raiders and Civil War era events near Williamsburg. Clermont’s oldest resident Dr. William E. Thompson, Bethel, marked his 100th birthday.
Cincinnati’s Lowell E. Golter of the Gwynne Building was granted permission to be a party defendant in the will contest over Emory Dick’s estate. The dispute centers on a trust fund bequeathed to New Richmond Mistletoe Lodge, though no such lodge exists, and Golter argues the real beneficiary was Buckeye Lodge No. 150 F. & A. M. in New Richmond. The case likely will be heard early winter.
Batavia High School's boys beat Felicity 34 to 13 and the girls won 33 to 20 in the season opener. Little Lowell Rust led the boys with six field goals while Betty Jane Fille scored 24 for the girls as Batavia eyes upcoming games against Williamsburg and Georgetown.
The County Prince of Peace Contest will be held at Bethel M E Church next Sunday at 8:00 p m. Contenders certified to the county chairman include Anna Thiel New Richmond sponsored by the Presbyterian Church with alternate Marjorie Few Gladys Bauer Batavia sponsored by the Methodist Church alternate Charles Hauck Ellis Gregg Milford sponsored by the Methodist Church alternate Si Cramer. The program and judges will be announced later.
The Williamsburg Township Sunday School Convention will be held December 5 in Williamsburg. Two sessions, 2:00 p.m. at Clover Cs and an evening service at the Methodist Church feature Thelma Hibbs Onneta Manning Virginia Peterson and Mrs Grace Honaker with Lydia Perin delivering the address.
