New WPA Projects Start in Clermont County

Two new WPA efforts begin this week in Batavia. A history project in the courthouse under A W Murray will compile a full record of Clermont county government with officials and term dates. A Veterans Grave Registration program, led by Emil F Marx and the American Legion, will locate and mark all veterans graves in Ohio from the Revolution to WWII across about six months.

Kroger Manager Takes Week Off On Vacation

Bob Dorsey Kroger store manager departs Monday for a week away. Clint Spurgeon leads in charge with help from Roger Budd Arthur Hill Clinton Curtiss Wendell Shaw and Tom Pancher the butcher. Kroger grants full pay vacation for employees with two years service or more. Dorsey plans to work on his farm and visit relatives in Winchester.

Batavia Public Schools Open Schedule Announcement

Batavia public schools will open Monday morning September 12 at 9 o'clock with a 9:15 assembly for upper six grades in the auditorium. Registration follows. First time enrollees should bring birth records. Students are urged to have medical exams and immunizations. Bus schedule remains the same. cafeteria opens September 14.

Mt Carmel School Third Annual Labor Day Reunion Notes

The Mt. Carmel School plans its third annual reunion on September 5 at the school grounds. The Mt. Carmel PTA backs much of the event organizing a basket dinner with ice cream cake and coffee. Mrs. C P Sticksel of Newtown leads this year’s program while Hi Ho of Chinatown comments on self esteem.

Sheriff Garland G. Auxier names Frank Perry, Marshal of New Richmond, to fill Deputy Frank Abbott's duties for two months while Abbott campaigns for County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket and takes a temporary leave of absence.

Local option election petitions found incomplete in Felicity area

At a Tuesday election board meeting the petitions for a local option vote in Felicity Corp were marked OK but Franklin and Pierce sections lack sufficient signers. Recirculation will be needed for the election. A full board and Prosecutor Roberts attended.

Fires Destroy Home In Weekend Blaze

A week ago a fire destroyed the Pee Pee aaee Ceee limits home. Mr and Mrs Money were at the church nearby when the blaze started. Arson is suspected as the fire began simultaneously on two sides and burned rapidly. Loss estimated at $800 with no insurance.

The Miller reunion gathered over 100 relatives at the Charles and Mrs Bauer home near Williamsburg last Sunday. Guests enjoyed a plentiful dinner served outdoors under the trees.

Probate Court Jury Called Wednesday in Bailey Case

A probate court jury of 15 was summoned to hear a misdemeanor case against Ernest Bailey of near Amelia charged with contributing to the delinquency of Ruth Benv, 16, a second cousin. Prosecuting Attorney Frank Roberts will present the state’s case. The maximum penalty if convicted is a $1000 fine and up to four years in prison.
