Indiana Couple Fatally Hurt in Sunday Auto Crash

Virgil Taylor, 57, of Manilla, and his wife Margaret, 55, died within 14 hours of each other after their car struck a tree on the Batavia Owensville highway near the William Brodie place. Their 13-year-old son Paul was uninjured.

In Clermont county during July 1988, 901 persons aged 65 and over received $18,600 in old age assistance. The average award was $20.64. Federal Social Security provides 50 percent of the program funds with the state covering the rest from liquor profits.

State Relief Examiner Andrew Gruber and Clerk William Brossart will tour Clermont County the week of Aug 26 to Sept 1 to interview direct relief recipients. Wreck in Batavia At A B Nichols Corner

Donald Hutchinson and Jeanette Brodner of Williamsburg slid off the road at A B Nichols corner Sunday afternoon and landed in Mrs N s flower garden. They crawled out unhurt. The wrecking crew from Iles garage salvaged the car. The curve is dangerous and sharp and needs guard rails and straightening.

Junior Fair Big Success Highlights County Event

The second annual Junior Fair during Clermont County Fair week drew 1 500 attendees and showcased 4-H clubs 74 advisors two Girl Scout troops two Boy Scout troops and three Vocational Home Economics and Agricultural departments. Winners included Bernard Hutchinson and Meyers Deel of Williamsburg for dairy, Joe Harvey Nicholsville and Jeanette Savage Marathon in health contests, Ida Mae Gaul Owensville top in Complete Costume, Owensville Food Club best booth and Marathon Clothing Club top parade. Eileen White Williamsburg elected to a two year Junior Fair Board term.

County fair draws huge crowds as Clermont Grange wins

The 90th Clermont county fair ended with record crowds across sessions. Awards were given in cattle judging, junior fair, and Grange contests. Bethel Grange won the Grange booth contest, with prizes awarded in cattle, hogs, sheep, and 4-H demonstrations. Directors and officers were elected for three-year terms.

Dr. Chas Barker eminent lecturer from Grand Rapids will speak in the Batavia High School Auditorium September 6 at o oclock on The Most Important Job in the World. The talk targets parents with high school age children and admission is open to all. Sponsored by the Batavia Rotary Club this trip marks Barker’s outreach to North American communities over 25 years and to millions of students in the United States and Canada.
