An Ohio investigation into the State prison farm at London finds the project would cost taxpayers 28.5 million dollars under ornate plans, down from eight million estimated years ago. Davis orders elimination of frills and proceeds with simplified, substantial construction, saving about 15 million dollars.
Hon James N Kehoe ex congressman and Bank of Myrnville president will address Adams County tobacco farmers on the Co operative Marketing Plan on the West Union courthouse lawn September 8 at 7 30. The meeting aims to explain the plan for the 1921 crop and attract county growers to join the cooperative. Kehoe a seasoned farmer and speaker will present the plan clearly and engagingly to boost local adoption.
Report from the Néner Democrat notes farmers discuss disposing of cattle sheep and hogs as weather improves. They see butchered meat sold directly to consumers at better prices, claiming savings for buyers. One farmer recalls paying 90 dollars for a cow last spring and estimating a value of 20 dollars after dealer calculations.

The Felicity Teachers Institute drew a large, attentive crowd with sessions and speakers earning high praise. Attendance ran strong, and a Friday exam drew 82 applicants. four days earned teachers $10 for expenses from their school boards.
Report notes hunting activity in sections and a close watch to recapture violators. Do not molest Mongolian pheasants until the proper time and respect state controlled game reserves near Batavia where trespassers face consequences. One hunter near Loveland pled guilty to killing equitrel, fined $26 and costs.
Ohio orchardists trial night dust spraying at the Sehmitkens’ 40 acre Lorain county orchard. A large blower mounted on a truck releases Boray powder into tree foliage during seven hours of spraying. Officials note dusting controls codling moth as well as liquid spray but is not yet fully proven.
Burglars entered Rosenzweig's department store in Milford by prying open a rear window early Friday. Merchandise and cash totaling 20 dollars were taken, with dress shirts and other items scattered across the floor.
At a Felicity county board of education meeting held during the institute three members were present. E H Pattigan was re appointed county school examiner for three years and assistant county superintendent to Mr Davis.
The East End Reds schedule two Labor Day games at 7 and 2:80 PM. Bethel beat Batavia 8 to 7 in rainy play, with fans urged to attend to boost Batavia as a baseball town and support local sport and youth development.
The last quarter of the Sunday school year begins with meetings for Batavia Union and Pierce townships in Amelia on September 6 at 9 30 AM. Monroe Washington and Ohio townships meet in New Richmond on September 7 at 9 30 AM. Tate and Franklin townships meet in Felicity on September 8 at 9 30 AM. Notables include L B Edgar Columbus Dr Ekey Milford Edna Hicks Hite and J M Small Southwestern District Director. Delegates should bring lunch and all interested are invited.
In Clermont county during a summer drive to remove non laying hens 28 percent of 8356 birds examined were sentenced to death. The Ohio State University College of Agriculture reports 34 demonstrations with 861 attendees and a potential saving of 80 cents per loafing hen among 930 culled in the county.
The tomato crop in this section is very poor with fruit cracking open exposing flesh and seeds, leading to fermentation and unfit for canning. No reason for the cracking is known and little canning has been done here with prospects poor.
Washington announces Major E. T. Hitch, formerly of this county, appointed by Director Forbes to head the Administration Division of the new Veterans Bureau for the Fourth District covering Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. A veteran of the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection and the World War, he brings extensive administrative experience to the post.
The August 14 law require autos to file bills of sale and certificates of ownership with the clerk. Certificates far exceed bills of sale with 169 certificates versus four bills. The note urges owners to complete filings before the October term to avoid prosecution and free court time.
Postmaster Weaver notes Ohioans faced large losses from wild cat investments in the past three years but gains from Treasury Savings Securities offset this, as the government issues reliable, steadily increasing value certificates. He cites example prices before August 31, 1925: $100 for $83, $26 for $20.96, and a $5 stamp for $4.19.
The Blanchester races drew a good crowd on Saturday with some Batavians in attendance. Admission was $1. No accidents occurred to drivers, though several machines broke down. The dusty track kept speeds under 60 miles per hour.
The Hawkins family plans its annual reunion on Saturday September 10 at Mr and Mrs Wm Hawkins residence in Twelve Mile. A conveyance will meet the New Richmond car at New Richmond at 10 and 11 o'clock. The event marks a rare gathering at a private home with a program to follow. A Milford mayor court ruling holds liquor cage cases must be appealed within the county where heard. An attempt to move a Milford case to Hamilton County common pleas was denied. Appeals will be reviewed in Clermont common pleas, with few cases being carried up.
Mrs. Carolina Faulk, mother of ten, jailed in Hillsboro for lack of a $400 bondsman after being accused of breach of the peace and threatening to kill Lewis Brown. Her husband would move if her bond is granted. Keith Ulrey and family visited Sheriff Rapp and family Sunday.
The 147th Infantry Company I arrives August 21 in Williamsburg after training at Camp Perry. The unit, among the youngest, won the prize as best and also twice claimed the daily $10 prize for best company street. Ninety four percent qualified as marksmen and sharpshooters. Mustered March 12, 1921, the soldiers are praised by Capt. J. W. Smith for their own efforts.
In Adams county court last week three women served on the jury with one chosen foreman. Within half an hour of retiring to the jury room they returned a guilty verdict. The work is new to them but they master it quickly and render just verdicts.
Brown county commissioners report word from the State Highway Department that 18000 dollars has been appropriated for improving the state road section between Georgetown and Russellville. The contract may be let this fall. State pikes are costly at first but reliable.
Notice to candidates states petitions for nomination for the November ballot must be signed in ink or indelible pencil. Some petitions were returned for correction, but none will be accepted late, and names will not appear on the ballot unless properly signed.
Pike construction progresses rapidly with foundation laid in some sections between Hamilton County and Willismaburg while others receive crushed stone. On the Ohio pike tarvia is being applied under state supervision as weather remains favorable for work.

In a recent commissioner's report the county commissioners were misstated as buying several irons off the Swing line at 854 dollars per ton. The correct price is 8.50 dollars per ton.
