County 4-Hers Do Well At State Fair
Clermont County 4 H Club members excelled at the 1962 Ohio State Fair on August 24. Carolyn Bisvantz won English Showmanship and English Equation titles. The livestock judging team placed twelfth among 49 teams, with Bill Leach as top individual. Beef judging placed tenth from 57 teams, with Henry Marshall, John Lenthien, and Don Andrews representing the county.

Violin maker Velin Mader dies at 78 after heart attack
Velin Mader aged 78 died Monday after noon from a heart attack at his home 144 East Main Street. Funeral services are set for 8:20 p.m. Thursday at Powers-Jurre funeral home in Amelia with interment at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. He was known locally for dahlias and work on fine violins. He was husband of Blanche Carlisle and father of Francis James and Dorothy Francis. He is survived by W. W. Carlisle a sister Mary Corsi six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Reading Teaching Techniques to Be Explained to PTA
Amelia Elementary PTA convenes on Tuesday Sept 11 at 8 pm with 4th grade teachers and pupils present. The program includes an introduction to teachers new to the community and a showcase of the year plan prepared by Mrs Emil Hensley. Emphasis will help parents understand current teaching methods. The executive board also approves a move from wallet sized programs to a larger booklet and lowers dues to 1 50 for both parents.

West Clermont Schools Buy Four New Buses For 1960s Transit
The West Clermont district replaced four obsolete buses with Bluebird GMC models. Eugene Philhower, transportation supervisor, and Sig Barton, a six year driver, were pictured with Patrolman Morris who inspected the buses. The district expects miles to rise from about 420000 to over 500000 next year and urges parents and students to prepare for early pickup.

The Clermont County board of education held an August 23 organization meeting with six staff members assigned roles. Tavern Manager Faces More Assault Charges
Edgar Horton 34, manager of Hornsby s Tavern on Rt. 28 near Goshen, faced additional assault charges after a Saturday shooting. Charles B Bowling a Navy man from Loveland filed assault with intent to kill. Horton s estranged wife Jeanette Horton and Samuel Whitton also charged for beatings. Burns 21 of Loveland injured when shot. Bowling attempted citizen arrest and Horton allegedly threatened with a revolver.

Local Barber Shop Harmony Show At Batavia High School
A Sept 29 event at Batavia High School will showcase eight barbershop quartets and two or more male choruses, attracting a crowd of well over 100. The Sycamore Chapter sponsors the effort to establish Clermont County’s chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. The Clermont group formed in June with 50+ members. meetings are Tuesdays at 8 p.m. at Batavia American Legion Post. Tickets are on sale through group members.
