Colonel Prater Joins University of Hawaii as Assistant Professor

Colonel Prater, former Director of Training and Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel, Air Force Headquarters Washington, D C, takes a post as Assistant Professor of Air Science and Tactics at the University of Hawaii. A Kentucky native, he is a 1940 American University law graduate who served in Europe with the Air Transport Command during World War II. He is married to Helen G Hughes of Cincinnati and they have three children Richard Richard H 18 Robert H 14 and Lillian V 11 with Richard a student at West Point.

Rev. Kemper G. McComb Dies on Ambulance Return

The Rev. Kemper G. McComb age 62, former executive secretary of the Council of Churches of Greater Cincinnati, died in an ambulance en route from his New Richmond home to a Cincinnati hospital after an lunch time attack. He had spent weeks in a hospital earlier this year and served last year as pastor of the Cranston Memorial Presbyterian Church in New Richmond. He is survived by his widow Lillian Elliott McComb, a son William B. McComb, and a grandson. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Friday at Lew F. White Memorial Funeral Home in New Richmond.

Ruffner Named Commissioner for county post

Ernest Ruffner of Williamsburg was appointed County Commissioner by a three member panel to fill the late Homer Remley’s unexpired term. The board split, with Ruffner winning two votes and Mrs. Bertha Remley receiving one recommendation. Ruffner previously held the office and was narrowly defeated in the last election.

Arms Broken In Fall From Ladder

A fall from a stepladder at Mrs. Cora Lytle’s home on Elklick Pike near Batavia fractured both arms. Dr. F. S. Skeen treated her before she was sent to Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. Mrs. Lytle works as an operator for the Batavia exchange of Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone Co.

NineYearOld Newtonsville Boy Dies In Auto Crash

A nine year old boy John Webb died after being struck by an automobile on Ohio 131 near Ohio 133. He died Tuesday at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital Mariemont. The youth had been returning from Sunday School when he ran behind a car to cross to the home of his foster parents. Driver Charles M Newton was not charged. A youth meeting is set for Friday at the Nazarene Church New Richmond with Gospel Prayer Band from West Union Ohio providing music.

Hospital Committee Plans Ballot Strategy Tonight

Clermont County Hospital Committee meets tonight to decide if the hospital question goes on this fall or spring ballot. They draft information for county commissioners and seek two and one half mill for 22 years plus one and one half mill for operating costs with Chicago firm McHugh Construction Co. assisting on plans.

Welfare Checks Investigated in Batavia County Home

A state investigator arrived in Batavia to probe delays in pensioner check disbursements at the Clermont county home. The complaint from Milford resident Mrs. Kate Mitchell alleges funding holdups, while superintendent Clyde Boner says checks are released together to avoid confusion.

Labor Day Program Ready At Batavia

The second annual Labor Day celebration will be held next Monday September 3 at the American Legion Home one mile east of Batavia on State Route 74. Sponsored by the Frank W. Weaver Post and Batavia Athletic Association the event runs from 1 PM through the evening with a Batavia Band concert directed by Charles Nau and a fireworks display. Social games amusements and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

New Richmond appoints George Colonel as police chief

At a Friday night council meeting in New Richmond, Police Chief Andy Painter resigned after petitions to keep him. George Colonel, formerly with the State Highway Department, is named chief for a six month probation. Painter had run a taxi service and refused permanent appointment. In Felicity, a Farm Bureau branch was robbed Tuesday night with $115.32 stolen from the office safe after the side door was forced open.

Woman and Child Injured by Batavia Police Car

Mrs. Earl Tutt and her son Timmie two were struck while crossing Main and Market late Wednesday. The Batavia police car driven by Police Chief Ed Colonel hit them causing minor injuries. Both were treated by Dr. F. S. Skeen and returned home. exact details unavailable.

Large Barn Destroyed By Fire On Shrader Property

Batavia Township and Williamsburg fire crews responded to a blaze at Lonnie W Shrader’s Elston Hockstock Road farm. A 240 bale hay barn burned completely. caretaker Robert Blythe sustained hand burns while moving a tractor. Spontaneous combustion is suspected. The Williamsburg department handled a grass fire elsewhere as Batavia assisted.

Mt Crab Man Injured In Batavia

Stanley Garrison of Mt Crab suffered arm and leg injuries when he fell from a trailer while helping unload new cars for Lewis Motor Sales in Batavia. He was treated by Dr. P R Dobert and transported by Moore ambulance to a Cincinnati hospital.
