Stolen Essex Recovered. Pair Suspects in Custody
In New Richmond early this week the Essex owned by C H Moreton was stolen and later found in Twelve Mile after gas and a break in at an oiling station. Everett Adams age 17, jailed in Batavia, confessed leading to a Dodge theft by Dr Gaskin five weeks prior. Lee Redman’s Lexington was stolen next night, likely by the same trio. Sheriff Rapp pursued the suspects as both cars were new.

He recommends wrapping trunks with newspapers, using hardware cloth or fine wire screens, and mounding crowns with coal ashes. Some growers employ a wash of lime sulphur soap cement and water, though effectiveness is uncertain.

A severe storm struck Thursday night at 10 16 delivering heavy rain and a half mile wide cyclone. Trees toppled roofs damaged and silos toppled with losses near five hundred dollars at Batavia Tobacco Warehouse. Fruit crops suffered extensive damage with heavy losses reported by fruit growers. Entrance Examination Set for County Normal Attendees
The State Department of Education orders all prospective County Normal attendees to take an entrance exam on September 5 at 8:30 in the Batavia school building. The test by the County Superintendent or Normal Director will last no more than two hours. Educators predict rising standards may require two years of Normal training for certification.
