Agnes Rutherford of Goshen wins a Columbus trip for Farmers Week. Mr. Fife and county agent Mr. Stowe praised the county's youth and efforts, noting 28 contestants and top county ranking potential.
Felicity hosts New Richmond for the second of a three game county championship set. Felicity defeats New Richmond 9 to 2 to even the series with a decisive final game scheduled at New Richmond on Labor Day at 2 30 p m.
The Deerfield Club and families gathered at Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Slade’s home on Saturday evening August 18. The president led singing America and roll call prompted baking day hints. Three papers were read on Dining Room Furnishings, Table Service and Customs, Use of Leftovers, followed by refreshments and a closing ode.
The Mayenville Daily Independent reports a two mouthed four eyed calf on Hast Second street opposite James Livery Stable. The freak can bawl in two tones, has two teeth sets, and drinks three quarts of milk per meal. An owner has a $20 000 offer for the calf at six months. Whit Hartwell of Amelia also displays a similar freak at the county fair, bought in Brown county last year. Dr W Griffith and wife attend the State fair in Columbus this week.

Bethel hosts an all day Street Carnival on Saturday September 8 to benefit the Red Cross. A parade at 10 a.m. features floats and the Nicholsville band led by Eli H. Speidel and Judge James Tarbell. Two minstrel shows, side shows, and a Red Cross pony sale accompany exhibits and games. Admission includes bringing a potato as requested by organizers.

Frank A. Brown of Batavia was commissioned last Saturday as a member of the Clermont County Draft Board replacing Dr. T W Needham who resigned for business reasons. Brown serves as clerk and Max Moore will take Brown’s former clerk role.

Next Saturday Clermont Day at the Zoo features a larger program and attractions for all. Speakers include Chief Justice Nichols and lawmakers W A Joseph Frank Davis James B Swing W W Prather. A North versus South Clermont county baseball game will occur along with concert ice skating and dancing.
Mrs. Gilbert Thomas an elderly Black woman of East Batavia suffered severe burns on her arms and chest when a gasoline stove flare ignited her dress last Saturday. Neighbors helped extinguish the flames but she died around midnight Sunday. Funeral set for Tuesday at the African M E church.
Brown county grand jury met last week with 24 witnesses across nine cases. Three true bills were returned for assault and battery against Richard Finney Harry Huron and Will Daller. The county jail was found unsanitary and dangerous to confine anyone.
A 1917 letter to superintendents urged conserving resources by crowding colleges and normal schools, keeping all children in school, reducing idle time, promoting domestic science and manual training, eliminating waste, and extending the school year with civics emphasis. guests listed at the Glancey home include Will Kirby, Ralph Russell, Grace Beyer, Elsie McCherrney, Mabel Glancy, and Florence Sullivan.
One hundred men were summoned by the County Drafting Board to the Batavia Armory for a Saturday examination for army service. After call, two men named Earl Rooster appeared, one from Miami and one from Pierce township, each with a different number. both passed the physical test though they had never met or been related.
Loveland business men and the Cincinnati Automobil Club hosted about 100 Battery E soldiers from Cincinnati last Friday. The day featured athletic amusements and a noon dinner deemed one of the most delightful. Toasts were fitting and praised the soldiers’ service.
