At Ripley on Thursday Rev Stokes leading a local congregation was shot from ambush while driving through Main Street. The unknown assailant fired once. the ball struck above the right eye and the wound is not considered dangerous. The motive remains unknown.
The last issue wrongly stated that a young man named Scott, a former John Ferris employee, was detained with the horse and cart of Mr. F near Milford. The information was false. the Scott in question is George Scott’s son, known for good standing.
