Teachers Institute Opens in Williamsburg County
The Clermont County Teachers Institute convened in Williamsburg with 128 active members. President W. E. Simms attended as Dr. B. H. Scudder of Miami University and A. W. Elliott of Mt. Vernon were among speakers. The five day session includes addresses by Landsittle and Fichter, a student reception, and musical entertainment. An Owensville High School pupil registration is announced for August 1.

Eye injury halts play as boy shot in eye in chase
Nine year old Charles Hall, a colored boy, was struck in the eye by an air rifle used by a playmate Everett Carter during target practice. Dr. Ashburn treated him and he was taken Sunday to the Children's hospital in Cincinnati for further care. Prof. J B Ockerman and wife visit, with Mrs. J S Griffith and Allan Griffith spending the weekend in Bucyrus.

Labor Day Fiddle Contest and Baseball Games at Batavia
Entrants in the Old Fiddler’s contest at Batavia on Labor Day need not pre register. Jim Patchell says fiddlers must assemble at 7 PM at the town hall for possibly two contests Clermont County and statewide with cash prizes. Also a horseshoe pitching prelims without entry fee will start at 9 AM, semis at a dollar entry, final games after dinner. Clark Harlow plans to attend with others. Morning game features New Richmond Giants versus Batavia. 2:30 PM Mt Carmel vs Batavia. Local fans expect two lively games.

Young People's Conference in Batavia Planned
The annual Young People’s Conference of Clermont county will be held at the Batavia Methodist church on Saturday September 5. The one day event will include three sessions and feature State Superintendent Fred D. Cartwright and other leaders in youth work. A program outline will appear in the next issue.

Banner Apple Crop At Pollock Farm Near Milford
Labor Day visitors tour the Lloyd B Pollock fruit farm at Elenor five miles from Milford on the Woodville pike. The 1400 trees bear high quality fruit with an expected yield of about 80 bushels per tree. Pollock aims to build a farm direct trade network reaching Clermont Cincinnati Hamilton and Lebanon buyers. A Sunday crowd of 100 autors toured the orchard to buy the premium fruit enhancing Clermont county's fruit-growing reputation.

Ross Jones Reunion at Neville Home Draws Fifty-Four
On Sunday August 23 the Ross and Jones families gathered at the F L Donovan home in Neville with about 54 attendees. Plate Glass Breaks at Rapp Dry Goods Store
A large plate glass window pane was broken during transportation last Friday at the Rapp dry goods store room. A new front has been installed, transforming the interior into a more spacious shop. The building, known as the old Sutton building, has housed the business for over fifty years. The glass was not identified as broken until arrival, and a truck jar is suspected.

Bridge crew mix up ends in misplaced materials

Whiskey Found in Cistern Near Ten Mile Bridge
Sheriff Croswell Deputy Daw son with Marshal Krantz and Constable Long raided Olimer Nelson’s home near Ten Mile bridge. They found two and a half gallons of whiskey in a cistern eight inches under water. Nelson was jailed, heard by Judge White, and fined seven hundred dollars plus costs, to be sent to Dayton Ohio workhouse until paid. No still was found. officers guarded Nelson to prevent escape.

Clermont Farmer Killed By Truck On Union Levee Bridge
Edward Shannon sixty five and his son Virgil were transporting market produce to Cincinnati when two boys climbed the truck. Edward fell from a rear step and was run over on the Union Levee bridge. He died en route to General Hospital. He leaves a widow and several children. Funeral services were held Sunday.
