A stranger threatened Nick Brewster for money in Milford near the depot. Brewster refused to shoot, the desperado shot himself on reaching a station hill. An inquest identified the man as John E. Hannon, about 25, with no known address, clothes fine and stylish, and no clear provenance.
State School Board hears proposals from all publishers to supply standard school texts at cost to pupils. Boards meet Monday to decide book selection. purchases to be paid from contingent funds with dealer profits limited to ten percent. Book quality emphasized. five year changes require a supermajority vote.
The Clermont County Teachers Institute held its forty first session at Loveland City Hall with a large audience. E Q Crane led a strong program featuring Eva H White Miss D N Cross and Florence Mundell among performers, plus a violin and cello trio. A gold headed cane was presented to President J B McKinney, and officers were elected for the next year with a 1902 Loveland session anticipated.
The Williams burg home of Addie B. Carter burned on Friday night causing about 1000 dollars in loss. Insurance in Olio Farmer's for 960. An advertisement promotes Dr Kochs Cefalico as a 10 cent headache and neuralgia cure, sold at Dr John Bunn's Batavia.
Wm Hundley editor of Higginsport Enterprise reportedly married Miss Mary S Coddington in June 1891 in Kentucky after eloping amid parental opposition. Mrs Hundly seeks divorce on grounds of failure to provide fear of bodily harm and threatened vengeance. Evidence includes threatening letters.
The Election Board finalized new voting precinct boundaries across Ohio and Franklin townships. It creates Ohio Township East and West Precincts, Williamsburg East and Batavia North and South Precincts, Bethel East and West Precincts, and Franklin Territory divided into Felicity East Franklin and Franklin West Precincts, plus a Felicity and Bethel alignment. The Franklin plan expands to three precincts. partisan disagreement led to arbitration by the Probate Judge.
A Loveland celebration for teachers ends with a staged alarm that goes awry. The fire engine races past the target, crashes into Stewart House porch debris, and returns to the engine house as onlookers cheer and water is unused. No serious injuries, pride of the fire department dented, and a night of embarrassment for the parade.
Court chronicle lists cases including Mrs. Fitterwater seeking divorce, Madison Eppert as administrator in a $10,000 claim against J. M. Blair’s Sons Brick Co., Winona Fitzwater requesting divorce and alimony, and Hannah L. Kennedy bound over on threats of arson and murder. Mrs. Jennie Bryan of Madisonville visits her father C. A. Moore and brings her daughter Marie. Dr. William Sutherland, former M. EF. church pastor at Williamsburg, renews old friendships in Batavia and remains in good health.
Treasurer Roudebush names A J Allen as deputy in the probate office and Judge Breeding appoints EF Parrott as clerk in the same office replacing Allen. Roudebush is understood to be preparing to enter the grocery business in the city.
Mrs. Belle Hayes of Hamersville Brown county arrested on murder charge after a baby’s body was found hidden under a barn and described as badly decomposed. She claims the child was stillborn and doctors cannot determine if it was born alive.
Henry Hassion of Ripley is jailed in Georgetown charged with the paternity of his daughter's child. His wife is dead and the daughter is described as a very pretty 22 year old who admits to two years of criminal intimacy with her father.
The Owensville Hamer Lodge held initiation rites on Saturday evening for the third and youngest son of a venerable patriot. The lodge has work scheduled for its next meeting and seeks full representation from its members.
Elliott Malott of Monterey was arrested last week on a complaint by Silas Weaver for assault and battery. He was under the care of Constable White who waited outside while Malott reportedly changed his shirt, then did not return, leaving the metamorphosis unseen.

A baseball game on Batavia grounds yesterday afternoon featured New Richmond versus Batavia nine. Crowds arrived by carriage and on horseback, weather cool and fair, three hours of play yielding 17 to 10 in favor of Batavia, with orderly conduct and amicable exchanges after the match. Umpire W. M. Breger Miele officiated, his role deemed fair by both sides.
