First Aid Class Enrolls 20 in Clermont County

Twenty Clermont County residents enrolled in Red Cross first aid training taught by three Clermont County unit instructors at Batavia with Harold Nichols noting the program serves as life squad preparation. The courses are free under United Appeal funding, with 400 residents enrolled yearly and volunteers also aiding fire and police units.

Winning Athletic Medals Almost Routine For Boy 13

Lee Ward of Pleasant Plain at 13 years old excels in archery. He earned six medals at the National Archery Tournament Junior Division in Oxford, including two firsts, three thirds, and a fifth. He holds multiple trophies from The Cincinnati Archers and has a growing collection of ribbons and medals.

Village in black after lean years in Amelia

Amelia officials report the village is now operating in the black by about 2500 dollars after years of deficits. Mayor Lew Lillich credits a committee led by Councilman Marvin Bishop for the turnaround and outlines cautious future spending as street projects continue with Floral Avenue reconstruction and curb and sewer work on Sperling Drive and Huntington Avenue.

Owensville plans Aug 26 gathering at 8 00 pm at the high school with the Northeastern district school board members and principals to discuss the State House Conference on Education. Clermont County Fair Art Show Winners Named

Winners in the second annual Clermont County Fair Art Show include Grace Salt and Marion Hardin for portraits, H. K. Jones and Norma J. Brooks for landscapes, Ronny Spaulding and Marion Croswell for still life, Ruth Angelheam and Jean Laffleur for sculpture, plus Peggy Brunner winning blue in CultGrea's class. The Bethel art classes display drew visitors and was organized by local teachers. Batavia Art Group is led by Sally Leibmann.

Lightning strikes near Courier foreman in Batavia plant

Homer Wilson, mechanical superintendent of Clermont Publishing Company, narrowly escaped injury when a bolt struck as he activated a linotype motor in the Batavia plant. A streak of fire flashed under the cab and a loud report followed, yet the electrical wiring and motor were not damaged.

West Clermont Schools Open Sept 1 With Split Schedules

West Clermont district including Amelia Mt Carmel and Williamsville Tabasco will open for a full day Sept 1 with about 5000 pupils. Kindergarten is discontinued during term. summer 1961 kindergarten sessions will run. Start times vary by grade and lunch is limited to grades through seven with a snack period.

Teacher Injured In Two Car Crash At Rt 74

Mrs. Douglas Ulrey of Batavia sustained forehead and lip lacerations after a two car collision on Rt. 74 near Willowville. Charles Wells of Fairfax suffered a cut lip and was cited for driving left of center. Both were taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. Ulrey will substitute this year in Batavia.
