Amelia State Bank hosts open house marking 50 years of service

More than 1,000 people attend the bank's new building open house in Amelia. Deputy Superintendent A F Myer and wife attend, along with 45 floral gifts and five $25 savings awards. Battery 1 of the First Regiment Ohio Light Artillery in Civil War dress performs, flagged by Edwin Glover. Savings bond winners are Ruth Clarke, Sandra Conley, Wanda Kirschner, Ethel Cooper, and Dorothy Wolfe.

Legion Post 237 Installs Officers in Legion Auxiliary

Frank W. Weaver Post 237 American Legion and its Auxiliary held installation of officers at the legion home on Sunday August 14 after a pot luck dinner. Milford officials Lew Wiggins and Glenn Cooper installed officers. Mrs. Sara Wolf installed auxiliary officers. Attorney Dies Rites Tuesday in Bethel

Bethel funeral services were held for Attorney Ben West 52 at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kennedy funeral home with interment in Bethel Cemetery. He died Saturday at Brown County Hospital. He and his son Bernard H. West were partners in West & West. survived by his widow Margaret Kratzer West, another son Patrick, and a daughter Judy Norris.

Historical Society Display At County Fair Opens Aug 16

Clermont County Historical Society sponsors an exhibit at the county fair from Aug 16 to 20. It features antiques and Indian relics from Milford. Daily collections and a Civil War documents display by Harry Keller will be shown in a Floral Hall trailer, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tue through Sat. Olive Branch Methodist Church Hosts Swimming Party

Mr. and Mrs. Olin Mann entertained members of the Olive Branch Methodist Church with a swimming party at their Mt. Washington home. A buffet supper was served in the early evening followed by a showing of movies and slides from the previous meeting.

County Phones Switch to All Numbers This Fall

Clermont County subscribers will switch from letter prefixes to all number dialing beginning September 1961. Exchanges such as Ullysses Saratoga Regent Rockwell Riverside Skyline Plymouth Swift Midway Terrace and others will receive new numeric prefixes replacing the current letter codes, increasing usable prefixes from 540 to about 800 per area. The change aims to speed dialing and reduce errors, with the Cincinnati Bell system starting in the Glendale area and expanding nationwide to standardize numbers.

Drag Racers Use Rt. 52 For Strip

Juvenile Court chief probation officer and State Highway Patrol report youths marked a quarter-mile drag strip on Rt. 52 east of here. A white starting line across the road at Clermontville Rd created a dangerous site on a steep grade. Alex Vaughn of Clermont County highway department said machinery from division headquarters would erase the markings.

Thief Lcots Camp Reward Offered

A thief broke into Norwood Boys' Club Camp on Maplecreek Road near Moscow and Neville for the second time in nine weeks. Missing items include a battery operated record player set, stove, lounges, dishes, silverware, 300 records, BB guns, sleeping bags and more. A $100 reward is offered for information leading to arrest and conviction. Call Sheriff Clyde Dericks at US 3-2231 with any sightings of other than a 1960 Ford or 1935 Pontiac parked at the camp.

County Woman Heads State Unit of OES Officers

Mrs. Marvin Sprague of Williamsburg was elected state president of the Association of District Officers OES at a luncheon in Columbus. She is a past matron of Linden Chapter OES at Marathon and has also served as deputy grand matron in 1958. October Deadline for Delinquent Taxes Nears

About 1500 delinquent taxpayers will receive notices from Auditor J F Paschal with an October deadline for payment or their names and amounts due will be published for two weeks as required by law. Delinquents still unpaid will be certified to county commissioners to pursue foreclosure with the prosecutor. Collections for the second half of 1959 are being made to County Treasurer Byron Ross. final payment day without penalty is August 21.

Autos Smash Into Two County Homes

Two Clermont County homes were damaged when cars crashed into them over the weekend. Hurstle Adams of Loveland was cited for reckless driving after his vehicle struck a Belva Crave home and caught fire. Ronald Toler of Cincinnati ran into La Burnall’s house, injuring his leg and face and receiving reckless operation charges. No injuries reported to residents. Williamsburg appoints Mil dred McIntyre as school librarian

The Williamsburg Board of Education hires Mil dred McIntyre as school librarian, noting eight years teaching in Kentucky and Ohio and a Morehead State degree. Her husband Eve rette McIntyre will join Williamsburg as junior high social studies teacher. The board cites library expansion goals and a $500 past year plus $1000 allocations for materials this year and next.

Promoters Offer School District Share In Project

Promoters William Noble and William Ray propose a 138 acre Clermont County mixed use development on State Rt. 125 near Withamsville Tobasco joining the Union Township school. They plan 1000 feet retail frontage with residential areas, a 10 acre public park and a central sewage system. They would donate 35,000 to extend school facilities and offer rent free classroom housing for one year at one per 25 houses sold, with option to continue renting. They will buy materials locally and employ local labor, aiming to be permanent area builders in Clermont County.

Courthouse offices run normally except the board of commissioners and switchboard closed Friday and Saturday. Treasurer, auditor, recorder and inspector offices stay open through the county fair.
