Clermont County seeks PWA grant for new jail

Clermont County officials outline plans for a new 50 000 dollar jail to be built as a PWA project with 55 percent county funding and 45 percent federal aid.Officials expect federal approval despite questions about PWA support given shared costs. The project would provide a safer confinement facility and help reduce local unemployment.

Simon Brooks Rites Performed at Bethel

Norma Jean Simon daughter of Wm Simon of Pt Isabel and Logan Brooks son of Mr and Mrs Albert Brooks of Bethel wed at the Bethel Baptist parsonage with Rev Burton Garrett officiating. Violet Craycraft and Eddie Shebesta were attendants. A serenade and shower followed at the bride’s father home. The couple will reside with the groom’s parents near Bethel.

Candidates Must File Statements in Election Expenditures

All candidates or governing committees must file a full itemized statement by August 19 at 6 30 P M. The law requires detailed disclosure of money or value contributions promises receipts expenditures debts and balances. Receipted vouchers over 10 dollars must accompany the statement. If overdue by 10 days the Prosecuting Attorney may pursue criminal charges.

Auto strikes horse near Batavia causes fatal injury

An eight year old horse was fatally injured when a speeding automobile driven by a Ft. Thomas man struck it on State Route 74 east of Batavia near Joe Leberman’s residence. Leberman was leading the horse across the road toward a pasture at the time of the collision.

Drunken Driver Arrest In Bethel Area

Robert Bessey aged 50 of Hamersville jailed after an alleged operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. State Patrolman Kratzer arrested him. Mayor Kennedy fined him one dollar in costs and ordered confinement at Batavia jail to serve the fine from Bethel.

Franklin township residents filed a petition with the Board of County Commissioners to close an extension of Main street Felicity from James Boys eastern premises to the W. C. The license was issued in the late court and Rev A P Smith performed the ceremony. Reds Return on August 23 to Battle Philadelphians

Batavia Council Meets With State Highway Officials

Batavia officials held talks in Columbus with State Highway Department representatives about funding a proposed $126,000 street project. The aim was state aid of $37,000 to complete the arterial road, with WPA contributing $89,000. a decision is pending after Friday’s discussions. Mayor J M Wiseman and council members attended.

Grange Camp Fire Meeting Slated at Owensville

Big Air Show Lights Up Cincinnati September 10 11

Cincinnati hosts the Cincinnati National Airs at Hugh Watson Airport Sharonville with top speed and stunt flyers. Harold Johnson from Cleveland headlines along with Mike Murphy and Earl Stein. Aerial parades, speed flying, upside down flying and parachute drops are planned with a 10 000 car capacity and a Sunday light airplane race for amateurs.

Treasurer Reports 52 587 59 Missing In County Treasury

County Treasurer John Friend Jr releases figures showing 52 587 59 dollars taken up to Tuesday in real estate tax collection for the last half of 1987. Anticipated larger collections in the next two weeks. About 150 000 dollars remain to be collected. September 10 is the deadline. Bethel Woman Struck By A Slow Moving Farm Machine

Mrs Charles Crawford 65 of Concord was struck by a machine in Bethel Saturday night near the Grant Memorial Building. Pete Layman 22 stopped the machine within ten feet after applying brakes. She suffered a badly fractured shoulder and facial injuries and was taken to Bethesda Hospital after First Aid. Mrs Crawford absolved Layman of blame saying she failed to look before crossing.

Drowned 14 year old on raft in Stonelick Creek

Daniel Rouster, 14, son of Peter Rouster of North Fairmount, drowned Saturday evening while playing on a raft with two younger brothers near Stonelick Catholic church below the dam in five feet of water. Coroner Sam White ruled accidental drowning. Funeral arrangements through John Craver Funeral Home with burial at Calvary Cemetery after services at St Leo Church.
