Mrs Leania Sweem sy of near Goshen died after taking a dose of salts on Tuesday at 6 AM. A mixed poison may have been involved as salts and rat poison were on a pantry shelf. The husband survived after soapsuds. autopsy and inquest planned with Sheriff Croswell and Justice Larkin in Clermont county.

Word reached Batavia last Thursday of an attempted robbery at Mt Washington Bank as suspects fled east toward the city. They were arrested while crossing the levee after leaving the bank, having accomplished nothing beyond startling a lady clerk. No bank losses or injuries reported.
