Zoning Inspector Injured In Crash In Batavia

Calvin S. Lewis Batavia zoning inspector 41 suffered concussion fractured pelvis and body lacerations after his dry cleaning truck collided with Frank Malek 80 on Ohio 32. Gary Horton 15 also injured. Both taken to Jewish Hospital Cincinnati. Horton treated and released. Lewis in fair condition Wednesday.

County Officials Attend IBM School Seminar

Auditor Earl Metzger and Treasurer Byron Ross attended an IBM seminar in Poughkeepsie New York from August 10 to August 12. The seminar formed part of IBM’s Data Processing Division efforts to offer educational facilities to government users. Clermont County approved rental of IBM equipment for the auditor and treasurer offices for 1965 and anticipated broader use once installed.

Official Sesqui Movies Ready For Public To View

The Sesquicentennial official moving pictures will screen at Batavia High School auditorium on Wednesday August 26 at 7:30 p.m. Citizens with colored slides or 8 mm films are invited to bring them for projection. The 16 mm films total about 500 feet and cover Main Street celebrations, the pageant, and the parade floats.

Four To Get Hearing On Stone Throwing

Four Bethel men admitted throwing stones at Bethel Mayor Sharp's home and photography studio. They confessed to breaking an $80 plate glass window at 115 South Street and were charged with malicious destruction of property. Their cases were moved from the mayor's court to Cowlitz County Court to avoid prejudice.

Rt 32 Improvement Bids Are Sought

Bids will be accepted by the Ohio Director of Highways until 10 a.m. Sept 15 for the improvement of Route 32 in Sterling and Green townships and Mt Crab village in Brown County and Williamsburg township in Clermont County. The project covers 22 275.02 feet of grading draining and paving with asphaltic concrete on an aggregate base and widening and resurfacing in parts. Pavement width is 24 feet.

Man Charged In Connection With Theft Of Auto

James J. West, 38, of Dayton was charged with disorderly conduct after police say he was found in a stolen car in Xenia. Mrs Helen Wisecup declined to sign a warrant charging West with auto theft. The vehicle was taken from in front of Maggie Murphy's home, Wisecup's grandmother, as West was located behind the wheel near Clark Street.

Labor Day Benefit Horse Show at Clermont County

The Clermont County Home hosts a Labor Day horse show on Sept 7 at the Western Saddle Club arena on Rt. 222 north of Batavia. Approved by the American Quarter Horse Association, the event features halter classes at 9:00 a.m. and 16 performance classes for grade and registered horses with trophies cash prizes and ribbons. Lunch will be served. spectators welcome.

Four More Appeal Leaders Named in Clermont County

Four Clermont County residents were named to lead geographic phases of the 1964 United Appeal campaign. Rev. Robert A. Chesnut and Mrs. Harold A. Fry will direct Pierce Township and Union Township campaigns, respectively, with Mrs. David W. Luck handling Monroe Township house-to-house solicitation. The drive supports 126 health and welfare agencies and 16 Red Cross services, with a goal to raise about $100,000 more than last year’s total of $7,286,000.

Woman Appointed Zoning Inspector in Pierc e Township

Locust Corner Pierce Township trustees named Mrs Frank Cann zoning inspector for 1964 to succeed her late husband who died of a heart attack. She had handled records with him and worked on zoning matters, deeming her qualified. Trustees also authorized fire department appointments and bidding for road work including single double and blacktop surfaces across Orchard Drive to Judy Conn areas with plans to shore creek banks and install guard rails for safety later this year.

Clermont Women to Receive Sweet Adelines Charter

The Miami Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines will be chartered August 29 at the American Legion Home in Batavia. Jodi Billington from Indianapolis will present the charter to 24 local women led by Hal Schaefer. The program includes performances by Liberty Belles, Mello-Dears, Question Marks, Seven Hills Court singers, Herman’s Germans, and The Boarding 20’s, with a food break included. Tickets are sold at Blocher’s Pharmacy Batavia or through members.
