Funeral Services Friday Afternoon for Batavia Woman
Funeral services are set for Friday at 2:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home Batavia for Mrs Clara Hawkins 65 who died Tuesday at Christ Hospital after an operation. She was born in Brown County and moved to Batavia about thirty years ago. She is survived by two sons and one daughter. Surviving sons include Howard Hawkins postmaster at Luke Field Phoenix Arizona and former Cincinnati and Norwood post office employee. Daughter Mrs Charles E Flannigan lives in Pleasant Ridge.

Brown Stamps Replace Red Coupons Schedule Set
The Office of Price Administration announced that brown ration stamps in War Ration Book 8 replace red stamps in Book 2 starting September 12 for meats fats oils butter and cheese. Red stamps X Y Z expire October 2 with new brown stamps upcoming. After October 2 only brown stamps are valid. November brings use of stamps replacing blue stamps for canned frozen and dried foods.

Remley joins Seabees to begin naval training
Thomas Remley 27 of Batavia left Wednesday to start training in the Seabees, the Navy’s specialized unit. He volunteered two weeks ago and is the fourth Remley son in uniform, with David a Silver Star recipient and Torpedoman’s Mate, plus brothers Joseph and Charles in the Army. Thomas is married to Aileen Glancy and they reside in Batavia with two children.

Funeral services were held at Batavia U B Church for Mrs Louise Winemiller 78 who died at her Batavia home after a lengthy illness. She was born in Higginsport and lived in Stonelick before moving to Batavia in 1916. She was a devout member of the Batavia U B church. Surviving are seven children Barbara Guenther and Mrs Henry Otto both of near Williamsburg and five others at Batavia or nearby, five sisters including Mrs Emma Sweeney in Jacksonville Florida, and twin brothers John Thalman and Joe Thalman.

Harold Hodges formerly of Newtonsville in the 855th Engineers has been reassigned from Camp Young California to Camp Belvoir near Alexandria Va where he serves as an instructor in the Engineering branch. Tragedy Near Blanchester Claims Boy’s Life
Lawrence Lee Reynolds seven year old son of Enos and Mrs Reynolds of Williamsburg Route Two died early Sunday in Our Lady of Mercy hospital Mariemont after being struck by a car on Route 133 one mile south of Blanchester. The driver Earl Berger eighteen of Blanchester Route One also struck Reynolds and Edward Balser thirty five of Batavia Route Four who were aiding the tire change and suffered cuts and bruises. Balser had stopped to help. Reynolds' brother Kenneth eleven and Balser’s son Charles seven escaped by jumping a ditch. Evelyn Filgis twenty of Deer Park rode with Berger and was injured when her head struck the windshield. No charges against Berger have been filed.

Local Man Richard L Caldwell Graduates Gunnery School
Richard L Caldwell, son of Mrs Emma Caldwell of Perin Ohio, completed the Army Air Forces Flexible Gunnery School at Fort Myers Florida. The 10 month Army enlistment followed his work as a milling machine operator and graduation from the advanced airplane mechanic's course at Goldsboro North Carolina.
