Clermont Wartime board urges drivers to protect essential transportation. J W Evans notes cars carry 80 percent of war workers and that new passenger cars are nearly halted. Only 132000 remain for rationing with 28 to 29 million vehicles aging, demanding careful driving and mileage control.
Henry Cushard of Moscow has been promoted to sergeant while serving with the Army Air Forces. He was selected for six weeks of training at the Consolidated and Vultee Aircraft Corporation in San Diego and has returned to his Smyrna Air Base squadron in Smyrna Tennessee.

S. L. Larkin of Batavia assumed duties as Clerk of the Clermont County Election Board effective August 1 to fill the unexpired term of Frank White. Larkin previously held the clerkship in the county and is familiar with the duties. Mrs. David Branch reports her husband is now stationed in Sicily after nearly a year overseas in England and North Africa.
The rally features a leading figure appearing at the Cler mont County event set for Thursday evening at the Owensville Fair Grounds. Organizers urge attendance and note the date is August 19.
The Gasoline Panel requires operators with no riders to prove impossibility of securing them and the Tire Panel details certification for tire requests. Howard F. Duvall, supervisor for the Farm Security Administration in Clermont County, reports that Ohio farmers repaid over one fourth of their indebtedness in the past year while new loans to boost food production stayed brisk. Unpaid operating loans on July 1, 1942 stood at 7,655,054, with $2,016,157 collected plus $240,913 in interest through June 30, 1948. During the year, the FSA loaned 1,398,584 to 2,316 Ohio farmers. Production loans carry a five year term. 10,768 borrowers receive real estate loans and guidance from FSA county supervisors.
Col C W Goble directed Ohio Local Boards to reclassify registrants aged 18 to 38 now to III-A to meet Army and war production needs. He said induction by October 1 requires immediate reclassification and lists priority order for selecting registrants, emphasizing nondeferred and family status factors.

Charles Violett aged 77 died at his Olive Branch home last Friday August 6. Funeral services were held at Moore Funeral Home Sunday at 2 PM with interment in Olive Branch cemetery. Born in Henry County Kentucky he moved to Ohio as a youth and lived in Olive Branch the remainder of his life. Survived by daughter Ruth Violett and sisters Mrs. William Groves and Mrs. Clara Fuller of HuntingtonIndiana.
The longtime New Richmond dentist Dr Harry Buchanan died Aug 5 after a long career in the community. A 1897 graduate of Ohio Dental College he practiced in the Buchanan Building and retired a few weeks before death. He served as bank director since 1939 and was active in local affairs and charities. He married Marie Moore in 1908 and was a Mason and Scottish Rite member.
The Clermont Hamilton 4 H Club Junior and Senior Camp begin Saturday evening August 21 at the Rotary Camp near Batavia. Ralph Lemon says over 100 4 H members from two counties are anticipated per camp. The Junior Camp runs Aug 21–26 and the Senior Camp Aug 27–Sept 1 with crafts from leather work to plaster plaques and black belts under top camp authorities.
Sportsmen announce a Conservation display at the fair grounds on August 19 with live fish as a main attraction. Many other displays will be shown and visitors may ask questions. A bait casting contest open to all will be held at 7:00 p.m. and invites participation.

The Clermont County Farmers Victory Rally Day at Owensville Fair Grounds on Thursday August 19 features Murray D. Lincoln of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation as headliner. The event includes the Junior Fair with 750 exhibitors, a countywide auction of items from baby buggies to threshing machines, WLW Boone County Jamboree acts, C G E Band performances, educational displays, war bond sales, a soil conservation district referendum vote, contests, games, lunch, a fair board election, and a bait casting contest with admission in scrap metal or war stamps.
Edmund J. Hadley of Monterey bought nearly 50 acres that once belonged to his Revolutionary grandfather Christopher Hartman as part of a Hartman tract. He plans a colonial home with furnishings possibly from Christopher Hartman and will farm the land with his Monterey dairy operation. Sellers were Mr. and Mrs. N Ulvich. Attorney Murphy handled the deal.
