Rehearing Sought in Anna Oppenheimer Case in Probate Court

Last week a Hamilton County probate court saw an application for a rehearing in the Anna Oppenheimer infanticide case under Section 7165. Judge McNeill explained the provision allows an examining court upon petition when no indictment has been found, with scope to discharge, bail, or remand after examination. The grand jury returned a true bill for murder in the first degree before a rehearing could occur.

Batavia Machine & Tool Company Expands Capital and Plant

Messrs Carrell and Jamieson plan to raise capital from 4000 to 8000 for the Batavia Machine and Tool Company. They will erect large new buildings, greatly increase the workforce, and double output to meet orders. The firm is led by skilled Mr Carrell and capable Mr Jamieson, both noted for integrity and business skill.

City considers Batavia sewer plan with waterworks links

A special council meeting discussed building sewers for Batavia to serve waterworks growth. Proposals include a Matin street sewer linking to a townwide line, traps at Main streets, and drainage into a creek by state health officers. No action. next meeting to revisit. Also notes upcomings primaries and senatorial convention with about 70 delegates.

Four citizens die from disease and old age in Amelia and Batavia. Lucretia Sprague of North Street Batavia died Aug 17 1903 aged 18 years wife of Andrew Sprague and mother of seven. Josiah Strimple a Batavia resident died Aug 16 aged nearly 82. Ezekiel Nash Clermont pioneer died Aug 14 after a long farming life. Elizabeth Dial Amelia widow of Shadrach Dial died Aug 13 aged 85. Adams County Girl Leaps From Train At Vanceburg

Miss Ridenent, a 20 year old Adams county resident, rode a C and O train to visit friends in Vanceburg. At the brakeman’s call she jumped from the moving train and landed on the platform like a feather, then rolled several yards before collapsing unharmed though shaken by the abrupt move.

Copperhead Bite Threatens Bantam Resident Near East Fork

John Glascow of Bantam was bitten on the hand by a copperhead while lifting a rock near the East Fork. Prompt treatment saved his life as doctors treated the wound and reduced swelling. Authorities warn hunters and fishermen to exercise extreme caution and to beware August copperhead activity.

Citi zens' Telephone poling plan probes city boundaries

The Citizens' Telephone Company laid poles along Duck creek road triggering protests from Oakley Norwood and Columbia township trustees. Norwood ordered poles outside its limits halted and work moved to Oakley. Oakley found poles on forty foot strip beyond its boundary tied to Columbia township land. Engineer Stichnath says land lies under township jurisdiction and the scheme aimed to avoid multiple permissions as Hyde Park may annex Cincinnati.
