Two residents named for Clermont heroism awards
The Clermont Courier and Clermont County Association of Insurance Agents will honor Lowell Jackson and J L Gibson for acts saving others in 1952 and 1954. Jackson revived eight year old Barry Lloyd after a near electrocution on a 2300 volt line. Gibson removed his brother from a live wire post death, risking electrocution himself. Awards presented Friday night at the Clermont County Fair with future years planned as a public program.

Death by own action ruled in Wymer case
Carl G. Meyer of the Hamilton County sheriff's office ruled that 21 year old Rich ard James Wymer of Newtown died from a self-inflicted gunshot while crow hunting. A note to his brother Chester and a single barrel pump action shotgun were found at the scene near Ragland Road. Despite the ruling some residents question foul play. Authorities note Wymer supported his mother and had planned to make a car payment with $20. Police are also reviewing reports of other hunting-related shootings in the area. Dr Richard Carr, deputy coroner, is hospitalized with polio in Cincinnati General Hospital.

Williamsburg man bound over on rape case in Clermont County
Larry Ferrell 21 formerly of Addyston Ohiopleaded guilty to raping a four year old girl. Mayor J F Paschal set a 30000 bond the largest in his history. Ferrell also faces an incident with intent to cause fatal harm against a 60 year old woman and pleads innocent in that case with a 1000 bond. Police took him into custody after a radio alert. The child and the woman were taken to General Hospital for treatment and observation.

Mt Carmel Social Club festival to aid fire department
The Mt Carmel Social Club will host a festival on their grounds in Mt Carmel on August 27 to raise funds for the North Union Township Volunteer Fire Department. Prizes include a man's and a lady's watch and a bicycle. Donation tickets, hourly grocery baskets, a pony ride, a merry go round, refreshments, and a fire fighting demonstration with a pumper are planned.

Amelia Knothole Team to Broadcast Sunday Baseball
Amelia's Class C Knothole team will appear on WCPO TV at 12 noon Sunday August 21 to face a strong Kentucky club at Mentor Park in Norwood. Red Thornburg will announce the game as Amelia County champions riding a 22 0 regular season record. The squad advances to the National Tournament in Cincinnati on August 26 sponsored by the Amelia Lions Club.

Relief Money Is Tapped To Save Child Welfare
August 12 1955 marked Clermont County's first use of relief funds for child welfare emergencies. Welfare Director Sam Ausman urged county commissioners to transfer money from existing relief funds after the January 1955 28000 deficit was exhausted. He stressed child welfare must come first despite hospital bills and aging needs. A November levy of two tenths mill was proposed to fund 1956 child welfare costs. Also reported Arthur Ozeller near Amelia injured two fingers in a hay baler incident on August 4.

Batavia councilman and Dorsey Thrift owner Robert Dorsey announced lease of the Sticksel property at Main and Church in Newtown. He plans to remodel into another Dorsey Thrift store with an off street lot. Kroger vacates one building, others to be sublet, opening date to be announced. He will keep the Batavia store.

Prominent Ad Executive Dies in Batavia Rites Held
Joseph C. McCoy 66 of Batavia died suddenly at his residence the former Judge Frank Davis home. Rites were held Wednesday at Moore funeral home with burial in Batavia Cemetery. McCoy was a Princeton 1913 graduate and longtime advertising executive with N. W. Ayer J Walter Thompson in New York and Philadelphia. Survived by wife Amy and son Lt Joseph C. McCoy USN.

Two Girls Shot During County Visit Incidents
Two girls aged 6 and 14 were shot while visiting in Clermont County on Monday. Caren Lee Amos, 6, of Seymour Indiana, was hit in the left arm by a .22 rifle as her father was target shooting nearby. Barbara Roberts, 14, and her brother Richard 12, visiting near Bethel, were injured when a 38 caliber revolver fired four times, striking Barbara in the left cheek. both girls were treated, Barbara at the Children's Hospital.
