Fiala is a 1953 USMA graduate with an Illinois civil engineering masters and Vietnam service. He has held posts at HQ Army Personnel Operations and West Point and earned multiple decorations.

Clermont County Board of Elections ruled there were insufficient signatures to place the Sunday liquor sale question before voters in Precincts Band E Milford and Clermont County Loveland. In Amelia Village the issue had enough signatures to go to the people. Petitions by Ward Miller for reelection and by three candidates for County Court judges were found in order.

The Clermont County Fair plans its annual fair board election at the fair grounds on Saturday Aug 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. One director will be elected for a three year term from Goshen Franklin Batavia Stonelick and Union townships.
