Hayden ready to launch campaign in Clermont County

John Hayden Republican state representative contender returns home to Felicity after conferring with Ohio GOP chair Ray Bliss in Columbus. He plans to start campaign in the county as reporter Guy Holmes notes Ottawa trip and county fair promotions including free pony rides. Clermont County Fair Opens With 4 H Tractor Rodeo Show

The 10st Clermont County Fair opened at noon with local 4 H clubs and a horse pulling contest at 2 PM. Entries in all classes are heavier, displays of farm machinery and home appliances abound, and an auto show near the grand stand debuts after World War II. Racing is set for 2 15 PM today and runs through Friday and Saturday. Bill Weist of Cincinnati will perform on an electric Hammond organ during shows.

Thirteen Enter Not Guilty Pleas In County Court

Thirteen of the sixteen persons indicted by the Clermont County Grand Jury entered not guilty pleas at arraignment before Common Pleas Judge Harry Britton. Trials will be set later. Names include Eugene Jennings indecent exposure William Howard Doss armed robbery and rape Odis Murray assault and battery Esmond Mounce grand larceny Mary E Moody auto theft Kathryn Roy al auto theft Robert Rogers breaking and entering Frank A. Saxton operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent Joseph Crawford cutting with intent to kill Williams Roslow breaking and entering Robert Armentrout breaking and entering Robert Lee Clifton conversion William Rountree indecent exposure. Cases continued include Robert Henderson breaking and entering Thomas Brooks non support.

Labor Day Observed By Frank W Weaver Legion Post

The Frank W. Weaver Post of the American Legion will observe Labor Day at their new home on State Route 74 one mile east of Batavia. Joined by the Batavia Athletic and Recreation Association the event features games for youth rides shows a fireworks display and a band concert in the afternoon and evening. The public is invited to visit the Legion Home and participate in activities beginning at 2 PM.

Robert P. Jones Re-enlists in Regular Army for Three Years

Batavia resident Robert P. Jones Jr. re-enlists in the Regular Army for three years, after service with the 2nd Infantry Division. Also noted are enlistments by James C. Widow of Crash Victim Dies After Birth of Sow

Florence Pride Bowen 28 of near Bethel dies Sunday en route to Cincinnati hospital after giving birth to a son at home. Widow of Edward Bowen who died in a January auto crash, she leaves four children and is survived by parents Pred and Flora Pride, siblings, and four sisters. Services held at Kennedy Bethel with Mt. Crab Cemetery burial.

Addition to Belfast School Is Under Construction

The Belfast school adds a brick expansion joining the gym and main building. It will include four classrooms, an office, lavatories, and showers with all grade and high school classes on the first floor after completion. Two basement rooms will host a cafeteria and dining room. two other rooms will be used for home economics and science.

Clermont County Farmer Addresses Labor League for Taft Meeting

Earl E. Eastwood of Bethel spoke to about 265 delegates at the statewide Labor League for Taft gathering in Columbus last Sunday August 13. He urged Taft’s re election as vital to the state and nation’s welfare and said delegates came from all major Ohio areas. Eastwood will introduce Senator Taft during his Williamsburg visit on August 28.

Milford Festival Dates Announced

The Milford Chamber of Commerce announces its fourth annual Pall Festival at Riverside Park on September 14 16 and 16. A parade starts at 7 p m on the 14th followed by fireworks Friday night. The event includes band concerts children’s amusements and booths with refreshments. Several organizations cooperate with the Chamber in the parade and booths.

County Band Plans Concert at Ohio State Fair

Clermont County Farm Bureau sponsored band of 35 musicians from across the county will perform at the Ohio State School for the benefit of school and community groups. It will also play at the county fair this week.

Goshen Farmer Killed Instantly In Accident

Cline Smith a 70 year old Goshen area farmer was killed instantly in a hay baling accident on the Wittmer farm near Woodville Pike. He was active in farm groups and served on the Goshen Township Board of Trustees. Services were at Mulberry Church of Christ with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Myrtle Liming Smith a son Wilmer Smith and a daughter Mrs Beulah Jacobs.

Young Countians Attend Miami U Recreation Course

Six Clermont County youths from Farm Bureau Youth Councils attended a one week recreation leadership training at Miami University last week. Names include Sonny Lemon Batavia Irene Rosselot Owensville Dolores Seibert Batavia Ted Innis Batavia and Shirley Glins Batavia. Training covered play parties group singing group work safety square dance teaching calling and practice teaching and folk games. The Farm Bureau sponsored the school.
