Clermont County Grand Jury reports eight indictments

The Clermont County Grand Jury presented eight of nine indictments to Judge Charles G White after a day and a half session. Names include Ross Van Winkle George Faught Robert Keenan Earl McLain Roy Scott Thomas Cannon Thomas McDonald Harvey Henderson and Marie Stenson with varied charges and outcomes. Prosecution outcomes show guilty pleas and prison terms for some defendants. Trials were scheduled for September in multiple cases.

Summerside Methodist women form Christian Service society

On August 21 women of Summerside Methodist church will organize a Woman's Society of Christian Service. Calvary Reunion Plans Completed for Clermont County

Final plans are set for the first annual Calvary Sunday School Reunion in Preston's Grove Clermont County on Saturday August 17. Speakers include Rev Don West Rev M E Clay and Rev R L Budd with an all girl orchestra directed by Vivian Pangburn. Fourteen area churches present a varied program starting at 10 00 A M and 1 00 P M with a chicken dinner served. The event is described as the largest and oldest of its kind in southern Ohio.

Rural Grange halts plan to redraw Ohio apportionment

The Ohio State Grange and allied rural groups stopped a proposed constitutional change aimed at redrawing state representation. Walter F. Kirk credits farm presses and local editorials for the defeat as nearly 90 000 Grange members were warned of the dangers and rural residents rejected petition drives to place the measure on the ballot.

Soldiers Depart for Three Week Training in Wisconsin

The Headquarters Detachment of the 147th Infantry left Batavia at 8 15 p m Sunday for field training with the Second Army in Wisconsin lasting three weeks. The unit is commanded by 1st Lt Franklin D Morrison with Capt B A Froehle of the 329th Infantry ORC accompanying. Training near Sparta Wisconsin will end so soldiers return home by August 31.

A Willkie acceptance speech will be broadcast from Calloway Park in Elwood Indiana on Saturday August 17 at 430 PM EST. Nationally famous lecturer and home economist Mary Belle Burnett of The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company will lead the Cooking School at the Pure Food Show held at the Cincinnati Zoological Gardens. Former Batavian Louella Griffis Dies in Milford

Miss Louella Griffis died Monday afternoon in Milford after a year of suffering. She was the daughter of the late Chas S Griffis a Batavia carriage shop operator. She moved to Milford after her parents' deaths and lived with Mr Harry Miller and his mother. She is survived by sister Mrs T L Hamilton of Batavia and brother W C Griffis of Madeira Ohio. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm from Craver Funeral Home Milford with burial at Citizens Cemetery Batavia.
