Wheat diseases outlined by the county plant pathologist

Prof W G Stover of Columbus outlined wheat diseases at a southwestern Ohio county agents conference. Primary threats are Wheat Scab Stinking Smut and Love Smut with scab a serious menace in the region. Pink spots on corn leaves spread fungal hitchhikers to wheat heads, causing pink blotches and shriveled grain. Stover notes control by formaldehyde seed treatment for wheat and cautions against treating fields with infested corn stalks. Board of County Commissioners met in special session to approve bills and set bids for bridge work and lumber purchases.

Meyers-Emmich Wedding Celebrated at South Norwood

Mr and Mrs Chas J Meyers hosted about 70 guests at their South Norwood home for the marriage of their daughter Hazel Meyers to W A Emmichh of Cincinnati on August 7. The ceremony featured the Mendelssohn wedding march, white net dress for the bride, pink frock for the maid of honor, and a double ring service. After a luncheon guests offered congratulations and rice showers before the couple departed for a two week eastern bridal tour and a new home on Tilden Avenue Norwood.

Legislature Considers Reconvening on Food Profiteering

Ohio officials consider a special session to curb profiteering and address the food shortage. Lieut. Gov. Clarence J. Brown informed Attorney General John C. Price that the Legislature stands ready to reconvene if current laws prove insufficient.

Milford Labor Day Parade and Park Program Planned

Milford citizens led by Councilman M. B. Scott plan a Labor Day event on Monday September 1 starting with a parade through Milford to Riverside Park. The program includes a song feast addresses athletic events a baseball game between Milford and King Mills a band concert and a pavilion dance with a new concrete floor. The merry go round and other attractions will entertain all day while funds support Riverside Park improvements.

Obituary of Hulda Harris Born 1845 Died 1919

Hulda Harris longtime Winters resident born April 7 1845 died July 16 1919 at age 74 years with 12 days. She married Samuel C Harris on Sept 2 1866 and had six children Sarah Smith Clara Jacobs Addie Frazer Fannie Zimmerman Onie Peterson and Lizzie Curtis. The family spent 1906–after the San Francisco earthquake in California before returning to Ohio. Surviving sisters are Sarah Thompson Emma Hulse and Anna Settles. Fourteen grandchildren are noted and mourners speak of her kindness and devotion to family wha combined into a peaceful farewell.

Time running out for candidacy filings in county

Only 22 days remain to file nomination petitions for the November ballot. Fewer than a dozen residents, mainly from Batavia township, have expressed interest. September 4 is the deadline, 60 days before the election. Citizens are urged to nominate competent candidates for township, corporation and school offices. Republicans are urged to field a full ticket.
